[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1497184] Re: Kernel-panic with 3.13.0-64.104 generic kernel (BUG at net/core/skbuff:1290)

2015-09-21 Thread Arjen Lentz
Hi henrix - I'm trying your patched kernel, will update soon with results.
I too get the kernel panics in 3.13.0-64, but not in -63.
In -64 they are very frequent, so it shouldn't take long to see one again it
re-occurs anyway with your patch in place.

2015-09-21 Thread Arjen Lentz
@apw / @henrix - ah, that's good. No worries.
That explains why only my laptop has had the issue, as indeed I do pull in
updates from proposed there and that's fine - happy to help catch stuff early.
So, all is as it should be! awesome. thanks!

I concur with loann, although mine has only been up for 2h20. With the
unpatched kernel it would've long panicked.

2015-09-21 Thread Arjen Lentz
henrix - just a note, probably pointing out the obvious
I find it a tad frustrating that this situation happened with an LTS release,
by the looks of it through a mistake of pulling in an incomplete or untested
kernel patch.
I'd rather not see that happen in LTS, it's causing a bit of grief now.

anyway thanks for tracking down the probable cause pretty quickly, and
building a test kernel for people to try.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1458478] Re: No HDMI audio output on newer kernel (3.19.0-18).

2015-05-27 Thread Arjen
I have a similar problem. With this kernel my hdmi-audio works just fine:
/boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-16-generic.efi.signed

With this new one it is not available/recognized:
/boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-18-generic.efi.signed

In my case its a Intel HDMI device:

On 3.19.0-16 aplay -l shows:
$ aplay -l
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]

card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1

On 3.19.0-18 it only lists these devices:
$ aplay -l

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1118447] Re: Race condition with network and NFS mounts causes boottime hang

2013-10-07 Thread Arjen Verweij
This bug has been around for years and we have worked around it by
mounting NFS from rc.local. It's not pretty, but it gets pretty old to
reboot your system and find it hanging. For some reason the NFS mounts
won't wait until networking has completed (i.e. bringing up the
interface).

I doubt it is a kernel bug, but I'm happy to test. It's not just Ubuntu,
but also Mint, so I guess all of Debian and derivatives.

Title:
  Race condition with network and NFS mounts causes boottime hang

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “nfs-utils” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I seem to experience a race condition during boot of my ubuntu 12.04 server:
In approx. one of seven boots, the server hangs during bootup.
  This is what I see on the screen:

  After the line

   * Starting configure network device

  there is a short delay of about 1 second, then messages continue. I
  see

   * Starting Mount network filesystems [ OK ]
   * Starting set sysctls from /etc/sysctl.conf [ OK ]
   * Starting configure network device [ OK ]
   * Stopping Mount network filesystems [ OK ]
   * Stopping set sysctls from /etc/sysctl.conf [ OK ]
   * Starting Block the mounting event for NFS filesytems until statd is
running [ OK ]
   * Stopping Block the mounting event for NFS filesytems until statd is
running [ OK ]
   * Starting Block the mounting event for NFS filesytems until statd is
running [ OK ]
   * Stopping Block the mounting event for NFS filesytems until statd is
running [ OK ]

  The last messages repeats several times, and then the boot process hangs.
  In 6/7 of cases, I wait for a minute, and after that bootup continues.

  But in approx 1/7 cases, the system hangs at this point forever. The
  machine does not respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL, I have to reboot it using
  SysRq-Keys.

  WORKAROUND: Setting the NFS entries in fstab to noauto completely removes
the problem:
  There is no timeout during boot, and no lockup any more. The machine boote
smoothly with the NFS-shares unmounted. After the machine is up, we can
manually mount the NFS-shares without a problem.
