[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1748747] Re: Laptop turns of when secondary battery is empty while main battery is still charged.

2018-03-18 Thread Christoph Grimmer-Dietrich
Apparently it is known for quite a while (read 6 years) that UPower has
some problem with dual battery systems:

Laptop turns of when secondary battery is empty while main battery is

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm using a Lenovo T460s with two batteries running Ubuntu 17.10.

The indicator shows the combined charge of both batteries and I was at
40% when the laptop simply turned off. After the reboot I saw that the
main battery was at 88% while the extra battery was at 0%. For some
reason the OS deemed it necessary to perform an emergency shutdown

I don't know whether this is a problem in gnome power management or

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1748747] Re: Laptop turns of when secondary battery is empty while main battery is still charged.

2018-03-18 Thread Christoph Grimmer-Dietrich
Joseph, since I am using the laptop as main working device I am very
reluctant to switch from the ubuntu custom kernel to mainline and let
the machine die willingly. I got a pointer via AskUbuntu
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/961278/how-to-prevent-shutdown-when-
one-of-two-batteries-is-empty) that UPower is likely to be the real
culprit (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/How-to-get-dual-
battery-to-switch-without-powering-off-in-Linux/td-p/3890605).

I will now tell UPower to warn instead of shutting down, turn on the
gnome power management again and check whether the problem stays. If
that is the case I will go ahead an run 4.16 :-)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1694167] Re: unity does not start when booting with 4.11.3 kernel

2017-07-22 Thread Christoph Grimmer-Dietrich
I recently tried going up to 4.12. Unity did start but the firmware for
the Intel wireless device did not load. So I'm running a recent 4.11
right now. Since I use the laptop for work I'm reluctant to install a
RC. The 4.12 did mess up enough ☺️

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1694167] Re: unity does not start when booting with 4.11.3 kernel

2017-07-14 Thread Christoph Grimmer-Dietrich
Hallo Joseph,

The bug did only occur when using 4.11.3 from kernel.ubuntu.com. 4.11.2 was
running fine as well as my currently used 4.11.8. I switched to the
upstream kernel due to severe problems with my bluetooth headset as well as
the lacking DP support.

Title:
unity does not start when booting with 4.11.3 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I installed the recent 4.11.3 kernel from the packages downloaded from
  kernel.ubuntu.org

After rebooting unity did not start properly. I had no dash, no
decorations and no dock. After starting unity manually from the
command line I got window decorations for a program that is run after
  login but nothing else.

After switching back to 4.11.2 the system is working fine again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2016-11-16 Thread Christoph Grimmer-Dietrich
Ubuntu 16.10 with the current 4.8 kernel. The headset worked like a
charm until now. After the last reboot connecting the headset freezes
video playback in chrome and firefox. This sucks pretty bad.

Title:
Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In 16.04 when a bluetooth audio device is connected it freezes video
playback and also no sound comes from online audio only streams. Issue
does not exist with a wired headset.

This issue does not exist with 15.10. All updates have been installed
on 16.04 including backports but they have not fixed the issue.

It is not browser specific and not website specific.

It is not hardware specific as it affects my laptop with an intel 7260
card and my pc with an intel 8260 card.

The issue exists on both ubuntu and kubuntu 16.04.

I have reported it on the ubuntu support forums and after
investigation a moderator noticed changed in the kernel from 4.4 and
4.2 that may becausing the issue and asked me to file a bug report.

The ubuntu forum thread can be found here.
