[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1584479] Re: [MSI GP72 6QE Leopard Pro] acpi=off required to boot

2018-04-06 Thread Damien
Hi,

I'm using the same MSI and I have the same problem. My touchpad doesn't
work when the acpi=off is in the Grub but I can't boot without this
parameter. Without that, my cpu is stuck!

More than 1 years after, is there a standard solution?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1958410] Re: bytcr_rt5640 sound not working with kernel >= 5.13

2022-04-07 Thread Damien
Confirmed on Linx 1010b on LinuxMint 20.3

Added options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=2 to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
reboot into 5.13
spd-say "Talking too slowly"
shut down
go to bios and save
reboot into 5.13
spd-say "That'll do nicely"

Works in 5.14, plus it seems to still be good in 5.11.

2022-01-21 Thread Damien
I live-booted from U 21.10*, which has a 5.13.0-19 kernel.

Bafflingly, sound test worked from the live system, even though alsa-
info shows rt5640,sof-bytcht.

Late now. I'll do it again tomorrow and grab inxi/pactl/alsa-info.

*Lost time making a USB boot stick with 32 bit EFI capability. mkusb to
the rescue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1542944] Re: QCA9565 / AR9565 bluetooth not work

2016-04-23 Thread damien
Hi,
I have enabled the the proposed in update manager and make an update. Then I
have removed the btusb patch sended by Pilot6.

Now, a uname - a return : 4.2.0-27-generic #32~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri
Jan 22 15:32:26 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

an apt-get upgrade -s return 0 package to update, 0 package to remove
and 0 package to add.

Since, the bluetooth has stopped to work ! The probleme is the same
describe at the begin of this report.

What I need to do ? Re-install the btusb patch ?

Thanks

2016-04-23 Thread damien
Yes !

You have says me by mail the february 6 2016 :

"But it will be much more convenient if you upgrade your kernel first by
running

sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-wily

and reboot."

How I need to do ? The old 3.19 kernel was removed because my boot
partition is too small.

Title:
Kernel panic upon resetting ixgbe SR-IOV VFIO virtual function using
  5.0 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,
I've recently upgraded my system to ubuntu 19.04, and kernel consistently
panics when I boot a virtual machine using an SR-IOV VFIO virtual function.
Could reproduce with 5.0.0-13-generic and 5.0.0-15-generic, doesn't happen with
4.18.0-20-generic.

I'm using libvirt and VM is using KVM, XML snippet to delegate virtual
  function to VM is:

As soon as I start the VM using "virsh start vm", kernel panics.

I'm using X550T intel NIC (lspci output: Ethernet controller: Intel
Corporation Ethernet Controller 10G X550T (rev 01)) on a Supermicro
X11SSH-CTF motherboard, with up to date bios and 4 virtual functions
  (class/net/em1/device/sriov_numvfs = 4).

Given panic stack trace (see attachment), I've narrowed down the bug
to ixgbe_ipsec_vf_clear function in upstream ixgbe driver:

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/72cf0b07418a9c8349aa9137194b1ccba6e54a9d/drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ixgbe/ixgbe_ipsec.c#L840

  When I comment its usage

everything works as expected (I'm not using any ipsec feature). Didn't
try to fix the ixgbe_ipsec_vf_clear function though.

Please find attached a stack trace collected using IPMI serial-over-
  lan.

2018-01-31 Thread Damien Buhl
It looks like the same issue occurs on Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P9400 @
2.40Ghz with i686 Xubuntu with Kernel linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic.

It loops directly after grub before any kernel print out back to bios.

It boots with the previous kernel 4.10.0-42-generic.

Title:
Elantech Touchpad detects as PS/2 BYD TouchPad or as a PS/2 generic
  mouse

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have an Elantech Touchpad installed on my Lenovo Y700 laptop and I
can't make it work properly by any means. I tried to switch between
libinput and synaptics but this bug seems to affect any driver.

Usually, after a system upgrade all works properly till the moment I
plug in external mouse (Razer DeathAdder 3500DPI). After that touchpad
detected as either PS/2 BYD or PS/2 generic mouse or sometimes PS/2
  Elantech touchpad.

After some 5-6 reboots without plugging in external mouse the touchpad
finally starts to detect it as ETPS/2 Elantech touchpad.

Reloading psmouse module seems to cause no effect (or it does yet
after a minute touchpad stops working for a moment and then switches
to PS/2 in xinput). Multitouch stops working as well as tapping with
  two fingers.

I tried almost all the possible workarounds involving adding boot
options, installing elantech driver fixes etc.

  Help is appreciated.

The output of xinput as for now:

  $ xinput
  ⎡ Virtual core pointerid=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4[slave pointer
 (2)]
  ⎜ ↳ PS/2 BYD TouchPad id=14 [slave pointer
 (2)]

  lsinput
  /dev/input/event14
     bustype : BUS_I8042
     vendor : 0x2
     product : 0x1
     version : 99
     name: "PS/2 BYD TouchPad"
     phys: "isa0060/serio1/input0"
     bits ev : EV_SYN EV_KEY EV_REL

  UPDATE:

Seems that forcing the psmouse to detect the touchpad as elantech
helps to fix problem temporarily. But it works only from time to time:

  $ sudo rmmod psmouse
  $ sudo modprobe psmouse force="elantech"

Same thing for me: Dell XPS 13 with QCA6174 wlan card
It often crashes after the laptop suspend

No porblem if I manually switch off the wlan before suspending.

Title:
ath10k_pci QCA6174 firmware crash on suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

Another issue with Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 (very similar to
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1827879), this time using Mint
20.1/Ubuntu 20.04: when suspending laptop, firmware often (80%)
crashes (see kernel log at bottom). It prevents the computer from
properly suspend, and many component hang (can't poweroff properly,
can't use "sudo", can't "modprobe -r" or "rmmod"…), so it basically
makes the computer unusable once this happens.

If I manually unload ath10k_pci module before suspend, suspend/resume
works perfectly. Unfortunately, I could not find a reliable way to
unload this module before suspend (either via a systemd unit or via
  /lib/systemd/system-sleep/ script).

If I understand properly, the issue comes from the loaded firmware
  (/lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6142/hw2.1/firmware-5.bin) which is
proprietary so can't be fixed. However, fixing the ath10k module or
the kernel so that it can recover from such a problem would be great
if possible. Note that I tried with linux-image-generic (linux-
  headers-5.4.0-74-generic) and linux-image-generic-hwe-20.04 (linux-
image-5.8.0-55-generic). Package linux-firmware is in version
  1.187.14.

  Regards,
  Yvan

Kernel panic upon resetting ixgbe SR-IOV VFIO virtual function using
  5.0 kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in linux source package in Disco:
  Fix Committed
Status in linux source package in Eoan:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
If you pass a vf of an intel 10G nic - such as the X550T - into a VM, and
that nic does not support IPsec, the system will oops.

  [Test Case]
  Enable virtual functions (e.g. (class/net/em1/device/sriov_numvfs = 4).

Use an XML snippet to delegate virtual function to VM, e.g.:

  Start VM.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1565864] Re: Hardware-specific: Fan is running at full speed on resume

2016-04-04 Thread Damien Boyd
Also affects Sony Vaio SVS15 series laptop. Hibernate or suspend no
change in max fan speed. No PWM capability.

Title:
Hardware-specific: Fan is running at full speed on resume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This bug is related to Asus 1025C laptop.
  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Boot into Ubuntu
  2) run pm-suspend
  3) Wake up the laptop

After a few seconds the CPU fan spins up to max speed and it doesn't slow
down until reboot/poweroff.
Hibernation can also fix this, so, fan runs at normal speed.
It is not a PWM fan, so, I guess, I can't control it via /sys.

  Output of "sensors" before suspend:
  acpitz-virtual-0
  Adapter: Virtual device
  temp1:+55.0°C (crit = +255.0°C)

  after:
  acpitz-virtual-0
  Adapter: Virtual device
  temp1:+0.0°C (crit = +255.0°C)

I've had a Linux Mint 17 before Ubuntu 15.10. No issues were in Mint. Before
Mint, I've used a Kubuntu 14.04, 14.10, no issues either.
I've tried to compile old versions of linux kernel (from the official git
repo) and I noticed, that 3.16 kernel was the latest, where fan works properly.
3.17-rc1 breaks it.

According to git commit history, 3.17 kernel have many commits related
  to ACPI/PM fixes.

My guess is that kernel doesn't restore thermal sensor device from
  sleep properly since 3.17.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1270676] Re: SD Card Reader broken on UX302LG

2016-02-06 Thread Damien Rame
Hi Olerem,

Thanks for the prompt answer. Unforutnatley, that NULL pointer didn't seem to
help much.
The computer boots and the driver loads, but when I insert a SD-card, the
laptop freezes after about 8-10 seconds. Just enough time to take a picture of
the dmesg:

http://postimg.org/image/6aczojhp3/

I did apply the NULL patch over the au6601.c (e.g. change the if
condition at line 724) driver that comes from au6601-dkms from iacobs'
repo:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:iacobs/au6601
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install au6601-dkms

Is this what I was supposed to do?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1270676] Re: SD Card Reader broken on UX302LG

2016-02-07 Thread Damien Rame
I used a MicroSDHC with a MicroSD - SD adapter. The card itself is
chinese, brand Xedain. If that matters. I didn't think it would be
important, but I can try with other cards (SDHC, MicroSD, MIcroSDHC) and
brands (real ADATA, Sandisk, Patriot)

It's unfortunate to have to reverse engineer a driver like this.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1297961] Re: [Apple Inc. MacBookPro9, 2] suspend/resume failure [non-free: wl]

2014-06-04 Thread Damien Cassou
I have a similar problem on the exact same architecture. Nevertheless, I
don't think my problem depends on how long the computer stays suspended.
>From what I can see, as soon as I close the lid I know if resume will
work fine or not:

- if the suspend light starts blinking after a few seconds, the computer will
resume fine when openning the lid
- if the suspend light stays on, I know resume will not work

On this same machine I had no problem with Ubuntu 13.10. It started when
I cleanly installed 14.04.

I reported this problem a lot of time using the message boxes that
appear when I force reboot my laptop (probably around 50 times now as I
always click on "Report"). Each time I reboot, I can see at least 6 such
message boxes. Nevertheless, I can't find these automatic reports.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1328801] Re: [MacBookPro9, 2] pacmd list failed suspend resume

2014-06-11 Thread Damien Cassou
Please find attached the /proc/acpi/wakeup while in v3.15-rc2-trusty. I
didn't follow the "resume-trace debugging procedure" as it looks like it
is related to debugging resume while I think my problem is on suspend:
when I close the lid and the light does not blink, I know the computer
won't resume.

If you want me to follow these steps nonetheless, I will.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1328801] Re: [MacBookPro9, 2] pacmd list failed suspend resume

2014-06-11 Thread Damien Cassou
Using v3.15-rc2-trusty (3.15.0-031500rc2-generic #201404201435 SMP), I *managed
to reproduce* the suspend/resume problem.
Using this kernel, the wifi is not working: this is problematic because I can't
just report bugs using apport from there. Nevertheless, when the problem
occured again in v3.15-rc2-trusty, I forced shutdown and restart into the
Ubuntu standard kernel 3.13.0-29-generic. At this time, I got plenty (around 6)
Apport windows and I click Report on each.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1328801] Re: [MacBookPro9, 2] pacmd list failed suspend resume

2014-06-14 Thread Damien Cassou
I have a hard time reproducing again. The problem is twofold:

1. the suspend/resume problem does not always happen
2. this kernel does neither have sound nor wifi which makes it inconvenient to
set as my default kernel

Do you think I could configure wifi and sound on the 3.15rc2 kernel?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1349225] Re: [ASUS N550JV] suspend/resume failure

2014-09-01 Thread Damien Mascord
This has seemed to resolve itself with later kernel packages. I no
longer have any resume issues, with either mainline kernel or normal
kernel.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1328801] Re: [MacBookPro9, 2] pacmd list failed suspend resume

2014-06-23 Thread Damien Cassou
I'm not really sure the problem I managed to reproduced on v3.15-rc2 is
the exact same. The symptoms are the same: I can't resume from suspend.
Still, as I don't have sound on v3.15-rc2, I don't think the problems
are related. Please advise on what I can do to help get this bug(s)
fixed.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 490742] Re: MacBook Pro: very slow resume from S3 suspend-to-ram

I've the issue also on a MacBookPro 11,1. It takes exactly 34,2 seconds

Strangely dmesg says the wakeup started on second 1864 and ended on 1869

So I've the impression that the bug may be before. I'm developer but
never interested myself in the process of wakeup from RAM, is it
something involving grub also ? Because it may be there that it happens
and not linux itself. Or is it this ACPI low-level resume which takes
long ?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1911055] Re: [modeset][nvidia] suspend/resume broken in nvidia-460 : Display engine push buffer channel allocation failed

2021-06-06 Thread Damien Banuls
Like Hugo Ferreira, switching to the NVIDIA Server Driver instead of the
classic NVIDIA driver finally did the job. Everything I tried before didn't
work.
So it is finally fixed for me, although I don't know if there are any drawbacks
to using the Server driver :)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1225332] [NEW] [Apple Inc. MacBookPro10, 1] late resume failure [non-free: wl]

2013-09-14 Thread Damien De Paoli
Public bug reported:

just installed saucy daily from Sep 13th (Australian time)

$ ls -l Downloads/saucy-desktop-amd64.iso
-rw-rw-r-- 1 ddp ddp 873M Sep 13 23:27 Downloads/saucy-desktop-amd64.iso

just closed the lid, and machine seemed to hang - I could hear the fan,
but could not get a response out of any key combo (caps lock, ctrl-alt-
backspace, ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-F1, etc.

Ended up hard powering off and then this bug report on restart...

BTW, I using lxde with cairo-dock, and since resume, the cairo-dock is
running but is not visible -- not sure why as yet, but in case its of
some use...
