[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1917210] Re: Dell XPS 13 2in1 wakes from sleep when moved on 20.04

2021-04-13 Thread Danny van Dyk
This patch has been included in 5.12-rc7. I have tried the Ubuntu
mainline kernel build for 5.12-rc7. I can confirm that the changeset
mentioned above works.

Title:
Dell XPS 13 2in1 wakes from sleep when moved on 20.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Dell XPS 13 9310 2in1, running Ubuntu OEM kernel (20.04) on 20.04 LTS.

Laptop suspends and wakes up when lid is closed and opened, respectively.
Laptop erroneously wakes up also in following conditions:

   1. lid is closed and laptop is moved/rotated.
   2. lid is open, suspended manually (via power button), and laptop is
moved/rotated.

Until I found out about case 2, I assumed that the hall sensor triggered on
slight opening
of the lid. However, case 2 shows that this is unlikely a hard ware
defect/sensitivity.
I suspect that the accelaration sensor triggers waking up from sleep.

I can confirm that the problem persist after stopping the iio-sensor-prox
service via systemctl.
I did not find which kernel module is reponsible for tracking this sensor.
Suggestions?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1917210] Re: Dell XPS 13 2in1 wakes from sleep when moved on 20.04

2021-04-06 Thread Danny van Dyk
I found an interesting line in the dmesg output:

intel-hid INTC1051:00: unknown event 0xcd

The 0xcd event indicates a switch from or to tablet mode, confirming my
diagnosis that the accelerometer wakes the laptop form suspend. Incidentally,
goolging for this very event
showed me the following patch:

https://www.spinics.net/lists/platform-driver-x86/msg25277.html

I would ask the Ubuntu Kernel team to include this as soon as possible
in the OEM kernel.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1423608] Re: [Dell Precision M3800] suspend/resume failure when lid open/closed [non-free: nvidia]

2015-06-14 Thread Danny van Dyk
I find a very similar problem with my XPS 15 (9530), which is virtually
identical to the Precision M3800. During
the last two months, resume started to fail with increading frequency. This
escalated up to the point that
every resume fails since about a week. A switch from Ubuntu 14.10 to 15.04 did
not help with the problem,
neither did a BIOS update to version A08 (most recent version at the time of
this post).

Title:
[Dell Precision M3800] suspend/resume failure when lid open/closed
  [non-free: nvidia]

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This bugs symptoms look very similar to others on Launchpad.
Basically the computer (under 14.04 distro) fails to resume after suspending
when closing the lid. It happens every now and then and after a week or two
EVERY suspend results in a failure to resume. I tried a few different Nvidia
drivers (331, 331-updates, X.org) and changed the kernel a few times. I have
tried to keep this bug report free from the all the different (and confusing)
trials so this bug corresponds to one of the latest kernels (3.16.0-30-generic)
and the recommended Nvidia driver.
