[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1958042] Re: Sudden unexpected reboots associated with Windows dual boot
** Attachment added: "Photo of BIOS screen that appears after unexpected reboot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1958042/+attachment/5554633/+files/IMG_20220115_235058__01.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958042 Title: Sudden unexpected reboots associated with Windows dual boot Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: My machine is set up to dual-boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21.10. If I do a cold boot and choose to boot either OS, there is no problem. If I am running Ubuntu and I do a reboot and choose to boot either OS at the GRUB menu, again there is no problem. But, if I am running Windows and do a reboot and then choose to boot Ubuntu at the GRUB menu, I run into this problem. The system will appear to run fine for a short time (~5 mins) and then suddenly the screen will go black and the PC fans stop. After about a second the system begins booting and I am presented with a Gigabyte UEFI BIOS screen saying: "Boot failure detected The system has experienced a boot failure possibly due to incorrect configuration. Previous settings in BIOS may not be compatible with current hardware state. Current CPU speed: 3193.22MHz Current BCLK: 99.78MHz Curent Memory Speed: 1596.61MHz [Load optimized defaults then boot] [Load optimized defaults then reboot] [Enter BIOS] " If I then choose either of the 'load optimized defaults' menu items, Ubuntu will boot and the system will be stable. I have been using this system with no hardware changes for some time, and this issue only started occurring some time in the past few months (I am not sure exactly when).
