[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2038998] Re: [amdgpu] Screen artifacts/UI oddities on Wayland

2023-11-28 Thread DooMMasteR
This issue never happened to me with my 3x FHD setup at work, but now I
am working from home with 2x 4K and 1x FHD and I am getting constant
corruptions.

Bug description:
Laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 AMD.
  Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U
with Radeon (RX Vega 8?) integrated graphics
  16 GB RAM

Running Ubuntu 23.10 (GNOME) from a clean install performed October 9,
  2023 from a daily-live/current .iso generated on October 4, 2023.

  Wayland
  Kernel 6.5.0-9-generic

  * * * * *

Installed a pre-release build of Ubuntu 23.10 to my ThinkPad the other
day, was going through setting up and testing the usual programs.

Installed Steam through apt from the 'mantic' repositories. Installed
Proton 8.0 and Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (Sniper) alongside two
  compatible titles.

Screen corruption (white and grey streaks) present in-game when GNOME
UI elements appeared on-screen (e.g., volume, brightness, and keyboard
backlight indicators) and omnipresent after closing either game.

Artifacts remain on screen until log-out or reboot. Artifacts were not
  present beforehand.

Artifacts only appeared in Wayland session; not X11/Xorg.

I previously had been running the same games on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
(GNOME, Wayland) and Kubuntu 22.04 LTS (Plasma, X11/Xorg) on this
  computer without issue (kernel 6.2).

And another correction
sudo apt install mutter/mantic-proposed
and
sudo apt install -t mantic-proposed mutter
do different things :-)

the mutter fix works :-)

  [ Impact ]

gnome-shell gets unceremoniously SIGKILLed on some Ryzen systems,
sometimes when the screen locks, sometimes when launching particular
  apps.

  [ Workaround ]

  Add this to /etc/environment:

    MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user

  and then reboot.

  [ Test Plan ]

Not all Ryzen systems (including one I just purchased) are able to
reproduce the bug. We have no choice but to leave final verification
to the community. Anyone affected should try locking their screen and
verify they are not instantly returned to the login screen.

[ Where problems could occur ]

Anywhere in frame scheduling and particularly for mouse cursor
movement since that's what the real-time thread exists to optimize.

  [ Original Description ]

I have this issue on Ubuntu 23.10. Lock screen works only with an external

2023-11-06 Thread DooMMasteR
Ok correction: on a colleagues machine the issue occurs when his laptop is
detached from the dock (external monitors) on my machine it occurs even when
docked.
the `MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user` fix/workaround works though.

2023-11-06 Thread DooMMasteR
For me the new mutter does not fix the issue, gnome-shell does still
crash/get killed when I lock my screen.

2 other people at my office have NO ISSUES at all, despite both being on the
stable release and also having AMDGPU devices (one is the exact same device I
have).

Bug description:
When using the SMBv2 Protocol to mount a top level windows share (such
as C:\) not all files (or directories) are shown that exist on the
server side. Exactly 2 files are always missing...

  Steps to reproduce:
On a windows7 PC (or Server) e.g. C:\ must be published as Share (must be top
level share - a subfolder like C:\data\ seems to work)

  sudo mount -t cifs //SERVER/SHARE_NAME /mnt -o
  domain=DOMAIN_NAME,username=${USER},uid=1000,gid=1000,nounix,vers=2.0

As a result always 2 Files (or directories) are missing in the mounted
  directory of the ubuntu installation.

Seems to be a kernel bug (source tree: linux/fs/cifs).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1861395] Re: system hang: i915 Resetting rcs0 for hang on rcs0

2020-03-04 Thread DooMMasteR
I can reproduce to get the driver/gpu hanging by playing back 4k h.264
video in celluloid/mpv.

[ 324.680024] i915 :00:02.0: GPU HANG: ecode 9:5:0x, hang on rcs0,

[ 324.681065] i915 :00:02.0: Resetting vcs0 for hang on rcs0, vcs0

the system becomes nearly unresponsive after a short time (2-3 seconds
after the first crash

my CPU is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U, no external GPU, 16 GB RAM in
an HP Elitebook 820 G3, the iGPU has 512MB memory allocated.

Title:
Graphics corruption (framebuffer offset) in i915 on 4.4.0

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Appeared after upgrading to 16.04 LTS. Mostly happens with switching
channels in a full-screen irssi window by using Alt and the number
keys (or the top row of the keyboard).

Entire screen flickers between normal view, and a semi-arbitary offset
view (with the entire screen offset by about 50-100 pixel, wrapping to
the other side). Minor irritation to begin with.

Eventually lead to the entire screen blanking save for a solid
yellow/green line (about 5-10 px wide) on the left, occasionally (~1s)
flicking back to the correct contents.

Rebooting into 4.2.0 (left over from before the upgrade) appears to
  have fixed the issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1730331] Re: ath10k_pci: firmware crashed!

2018-08-23 Thread DooMMasteR
I have never had problems wit heat or sleep, so I would see this issue
completely unrelated.

Also it did work for me, fine, for months in the past and I changed
nothing to the system.

For me the firmware also crashes on a
> 02:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless
> Network Adapter (rev 32)

And it is always the same log.

I changed nothing on my wifi, so the issue must have been introduced by
some change in ubuntu.

Title:
[snb] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001, workaround
  i915.semaphores=0

Status in X.org xf86-video-intel:
  In Progress
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in “sandybridge-meta” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
X locks up periodically for a 2 to ten seconds at a time and this
crash log gets generated. It's significantly more than several times a
day but not quite continuous. If you indeed have this bug, that should
stop the lockups from happening. Irrespective, please file a new bug
report so your hardware may be tracked.

  WORKAROUND: Edit your /etc/default/grub from:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

  to:
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash i915.semaphores=0

  run the following and reboot:
  sudo update-grub

The side effects of this is rendering throughput is dropped by 10%
with SNA, or as much as 3x with UXA. OpenGL performance is likely to
be reduced by about 30%. More CPU time is spent waiting for the GPU
with rc6 disabled, so increased power consumption.

Title:
  rtl8187 drops connection

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  Invalid
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in “lynx” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have a ASUS P5K motherboard with integrated wireless based on
rtl8187. In Hardy (haven't tried other Ubuntu versions) the
connection often suddenly fails, with the software not noticing
  anything.

Nothing is logged in dmesg or syslog except for (sometimes): WEP decrypt
failed (ICV)
I have noticed this string also appears in the log at times when the
interface does _not_ fail.

The computer continues on oblivious to the fact that it has just lost
its network connection (networkmanager is not installed, but gnome's
network monitor applet indicates a good connection). In fact, a
wireshark dump indicates that the computer still thinks it is sending
802.11 frames, but monitoring from another computer (with a reliable
wireless driver) indicates that nothing is being sent from the
affected computer, even while the AP is chugging along trying to
contact a host which has mysteriously dropped offline. I have noticed
this problem across kernel images (2.6.24-3-generic and
2.6.24-4-generic to be specific). In one instance, I found that
modprobing the module out and back in again fixed it, while another
time this caused modprobe to use 100% CPU and become unresponsive,
even to kill signals (Yeah, the kill -9 kind).

If any more information is necessary please ask and I'll do my best.

  This also effects Intrepid Ibex/2.6.27-7-generic
