Tried to install Ubuntu Gnome 16.04.1 with NVIDIA Driver 367.xx using the GDM display manager yesterday and resulted in black screen at login.
Did the same today with the newly released NVIDIA Driver 370.23 (beta, I think) and everything is actually working fine - no black screens, but the login seemed kinda funky. Although there don't appear to be any technical issues so far, I'm not entirely sure if that NVIDIA Driver build is stable. Not sure if it's just affecting me either, but thought I'd throw that comment in there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1559576 Title: Ubuntu GNOME boots to black screen when using proprietary Nvidia drivers on a laptop with Optimus Status in gdm: Confirmed Status in Ubuntu GNOME: Triaged Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in gdm3 source package in Xenial: Triaged Status in linux source package in Xenial: Invalid Bug description: Using latest Ubuntu Gnome x64 daily build with all updates installed. Lenovo Z70-80 laptop with Nvidia 840M, BIOS updated to latest version, secure boot and other potentially problematic BIOS settings disabled. Can only see a black screen instead of a log-in screen after boot completes when proprietary Nvidia drivers are installed. Regular Ubuntu works absolutely fine on the same machine with the same driver version. Attempting to use older drivers on Ubuntu Gnome made no difference. Bug is affecting more than just me.
