Title:
  Ubuntu 20.04 Freezes

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I am running into full system freezes while using 20.04, i did a clean
install and the issue is still there it will randomly freeze the whole system
sometimes the mouse pointer is moving.
Ends up hard resetting by holding the power button to restart the pc.
I am using AMD Ryzen 5 2500U , and while it boots up it has showed some gpu
error while booting ubuntu. Some error realating to kernel is showed , amd gpu
kernel like that. So i think its kernel related issue.

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 HDMI connected, no boot

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 (using the image created on 20 april) on
my Dell XPS15 9560. This laptop has a Intel / nVidia combo.

The problem i am facing is that when i have an external monitor
connected to the laptop through the HDMI connector of the laptop,
Ubuntu does not boot and hangs on the splash screen. I have not found
any way to get logging on any kind.

Before i was running Ubuntu 18.04 and did not have any problems with
the monitor and HDMI cable. After boot is finished (without monitor
connected) inserting the HDMI cable works fine and i can use the
monitor and laptop screen without any problem.

I have installed the preferred nVida proprietary driver. Also it does
not matter if booting with nVidia selected or Intel selected.

Pep, you can now run the command "apport-collect 1868534" again. This
time it should collect kernel information. The previous attempt didn't
collect any data as the bug was unassigned.

I'm using custom IR receiver with CIR header in my ASRock MoBo.
This one IR receiver serves 3 devices - HTPC, TV and amplifier.

Everything was ok, but after kernel change from 3.13 to 4.4 my pilot stopped
to work with HTPC.
mode2 app shows, that IR header is receiving something, but there is
something wrong.

Example pulse-pause timings for 3.13 kernel are:

Bug description:
So posted this on several forums in Linux Mint 19.3 and XFCE. Seems
like the major difference is AMD base driver changes from 5.0.0-37 to
5.3 <- thus far any version causes severe pixelation for every new
window rendering Linux Mint XFCE unusable unless the Windows Display
Compositor is disabled. The hardware is an AMD Ryzen 5-3500U with 8 GB
RAM. 5.0.0-37 runs fine, and I installed Ubuntu Gnome desktop which
also seems to work (though not as snappy as the original XFCE). I
wanted to highlight and also understand if Xubuntu might face a
similar issue with that APU come the 20.04 update or if there is a fix
that hasn't made it to the Linux Mint distribution.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After 17.04, it's now recommended, and the default, to use a swapfile
instead of a swap partition. However, hibernation appears to be
completely incompatible/non-functional with this, resulting in
hibernation nolonger being possible at all.

It's possible to configure GRUB to use the swapfile, and suspend-to-
swap will succeed provided the resume_offset parameter is present.
However resume will never occur, regardless of how GRUB and initramfs
are configured, it just flat-out ignores resuming completely and
  nothing gets logged about it.

  I got the touchpad working by building my own patched kernel with "{
"ELAN0615", 0 }," added in drivers/input/mouse/elan_i2c_core.c.
Though the touchpad is working properly since using the custom kernel, I get
masses of the following kernel errors:

  System:

  Lenovo V130-14IGM

  Software:

Ubuntu 18.04.1 x64 with standard kernel doesn't recognize the
touchpad. With my custom kernel (currently Ubuntu mainline kernel
v4.18-rc8) it is working with the mentioned kernel errors.

Can someone please commit the mentioned elan_acpi_id in the kernel?
  Thanks!

  2) Package version:

  * linux-image-extra-4.4.0-96-generic (4.4.0-96.119)
  * Also with HWE kernel (4.10.x)

  3) What I expect:

  I have a 10G interface (HP NC523SFP 10Gb 2-port) in a HP ProLiant
DL380p Gen8, BIOS P70 07/01/2015. The interface is configured using
the module qlcnic and it works with the names ens2f0 and ens2f1. They
  also have VLANs configured.

I have installed Ganeti software and bridges over those interfaces,
  br-dmz over ens2f0 and br-str over ens2f1.

Everything should work without connectivity loss.

  4) What happened instead:

The interface loses the connectivity from time to time, although it
recovers itself, with the following error:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1686604] Re: file system lockup with zfs hung task

Title:
file system lockup with zfs hung task

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I am running an Ubuntu 16.04 server running on an HP Proliant chassis
with several lxc containers running on zfs. While performing a series
of debian updates on the host and container, as well as container
destruction/creation, the kernel spits out a stack trace indicating
that the there was a hung task while it was performing writeback in
  zfs.

If I attempt to perform a "sync" command on the host, the command will
not return. Also, if I attempt to reboot the server with the reboot
command, the server never reboots. A power cycle is required.

Title:
Intel NUC8i7HNK does not boot 18.04 or 18.10 installation images

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have an Intel NUC8i7HNK and none of the Ubuntu or Debian images that I have
tried get past GRUB. I have tried Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 as well as the latest
Ubuntu 18.10 nightly. After selecting any installation method in GRUB the
screen goes black. Things that I have tried that did not help:
  - removing quiet from the kernel command-line
  - removing quiet and adding nomodeset
  - removing quiet and adding nomodeset, earlyprintk=vga, keep, debug, and
ignore_loglevel

Installation images that do not boot, with notes on kernel version:
  - Ubuntu Server 18.04 (4.15.?)
  - Ubuntu 18.10 nightly (4.15.?)
  - Debian Stretch/9.5.0 (4.9.110)
  - Latest Debian Buster alpha release (4.16.12)
  - Debian Buster nightly (4.17.8)

I noticed that Arch 2018.08.01, which is running 4.17.11, does boot.

I did update to the latest version of the BIOS (48).

Title:
System freeze on boot since upgrade to 17.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This freeze appears on each boot since the dist upgrade to 17.10 (from 17.04)
with the following kernel: linux-image-4.13.0-16-generic.
The ssh connexion becomes available after 3 to 5 minutes, and the login
screen after more than 20 minutes.

This issue doesn't show up in recovery mode.
This issue doesn't show up with the previous kernel (from 17.04):
linux-image-4.10.0-37-generic.

I Also tried the mainline drm-current:
linux-image-4.14.0-996-generic_4.14.0-996.201710202201_amd64.deb
The issue is not visible then, but I don't have ethernet access any longer
(which may be completely unrelated).

Can anyone sched some light on this discrepancy:
  a) the autogrouping cannot be disabled
  b) even disabled there is unnecessary process classification taking place

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1648644] Re: XE500C13-K02US Samsung Chromebook 3 Ubuntu 16.04.1 touchpad and keyboard not responsive, also no audio

Changing the affected package because kernel-package provides scripts to
compile a linux kernel, while linux is used for tracking bugs in the
kernel.

XE500C13-K02US Samsung Chromebook 3 Ubuntu 16.04.1 touchpad and

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
16.04.1 image has no native keyboard or mouse interaction. I'm writing
this bug report on the affected platform, a new Samsung Chromebook 3,
XE500C13-K02US. In order to get Ubuntu to recognize keyboard and mouse
input, I needed to use an external USB keyboard-mouse.

Let me know if this platform has been tested. I'm assuming this newer
Samsung platform is not yet tested with Ubuntu and that there are some
issues to work through. This is a fantastic platform for Ubuntu use -
R, Edu, Software Development, General Linux use. I hope we can find
  a fix to the problem.

Let me know what I can do to help. I've seen this issue since previous
Samsung Chromebook models and since Ubuntu 14 LTS, so I'm assuming
someone has already taken the lead on this issue?

Thanks again, let me know what I can do to help test any proposed
fixes. I have plenty of MAC, PC, and Chromebook platforms available
for testing, but to this point haven't before volunteered for Ubuntu
  testing-debugging :)

As a side note, the audio also isn't working which seems to be a
common problem with Ubuntu on several Chromebook platforms, including
  Acer and Samsung.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1861533] Re: fan control goes full speed after sleep

2020-03-17 Thread Juhani Numminen
The package “kernel-package” is in fact only used to build custom
kernels, probably not the case here. No worries, I'll just reassign this
bug to “linux” instead.

Could you please execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1861533

Bug description:
I have Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS on a 2011 Imac 27.5. The hard drive was replaced
on this machine immediately prior to installing Ubuntu as the original had a
faulty bearing. When I first boot the machine and use it, the fans all seem to
run smoothly, varying speed depending on the processor load. But if the
machine sits a while or I lock it (Command-L) then at some random interval
after the screen goes dark, the HDD and CPU fans seem to run higher than
necessary and excessively loud. They no longer slow down to normal speed
unless I do a complete shut-down and power back on.
I've tried adding MacFanctld and even telling it to bypass various sensor
readings under watch sensors that seem to give odd/invalid temperatures. but
that seems to have no effect on the problem. (TH0O and TH1O both seem to sit
around 0 to 9C when it's in a 21C room, TL2V, TLAV, ST2P, TS2V and sometimes
TS2P read -128 or +128C) all the cores are running at 33-36C.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1806479] Re: Multiple failures in distrobution 18.10

2018-12-04 Thread Juhani Numminen
Regarding the first error that you mention:

Err:17 http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/indicator-kdeconnect/ubuntu cosmic
Release
  404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.95.83 80]

That is because that particular PPA (personal package archive) is not
available for Ubuntu 18.10. The webupd8 team only releases it for some
older Ubuntu versions. So please disable that software source.

The second message that you commented on is apparently due to Google
Earth repository, and you can report it to Google. That looks safe to
ignore anyway.

Let's see if that "check connection" message goes away when you disable
the webupd8team indicator-kdeconnect PPA.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => New

** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

Title:
  Multiple failures in distrobution 18.10

Status in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  When I try
  sudo apt-get update
  I get the following errors:

  Ign:16 https://dl.bintray.com/resin-io/debian stable InRelease

  Err:17 http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/indicator-kdeconnect/ubuntu

404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.95.83 80]

  and

  E: The repository

Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore
disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration
details.
N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as
repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable InRelease' doesn't
support architecture 'i386'

My system is an AMD 64-bit processor.

When I try to report the bug I get the following errors:

  E: The repository
'http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/indicator-kdeconnect/ubuntu cosmic
Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore
disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration
details.
N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as
repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable InRelease' doesn't
support architecture 'i386'

which shows that the .css file has a bug.

When I try Software Updater it complains that my internet connect is
faulty. The Ubuntu 18.10 drivers may be faulty, but the internet
  connection is good.

And of course there are the bugs in Ubuntu 18.04 and upstream kernel
and 18.10 when trying to use large external drives. Plus the
previously reported and ignored memory leak in Caja.

  Plus the error with hyperspec:

Downloading the hyperspec from the Internet
  --2018-12-03 15:28:10--
ftp://ftp.lispworks.com/pub/software_tools/reference/HyperSpec-7-0.tar.gz

Unable to download and can't ask whether to try again.
dpkg: error processing package hyperspec (--configure):
installed hyperspec package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 1

Note the invalid http port number (65193)!

18.10 is not yet ready for prime time. 18.04 was but apparently is no
longer supported. Many of these bugs are trivial and are easily fixed.
Others show design flaws in Ubuntu that need to be addressed and are
  much harder to fix.

Plus hfsplus has stopped working for no known reason. I need it just
long enough to get my data off the drive so I can reformat it.
