Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1305480] Re: BUG: pcmC0D0p:0, pos = 16390, buffer size = 16384, period size = 1024

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294729] Re: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730
This vanished and then seems to have come back on the last ISO I tried. Looking around at the log files in /var/log I can only find the line: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730 in kern.log and it only seems to happen right at boot, but the error reporter seems to come up much more often. Almost like the log file gets scanned more than once. My current kern.log has three of these lines in it, for three boots, but I had at least three time the error window came up on each boot. It is much less of a deal if it only happens once a boot rather than 3 or 4 times at it seemed. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294729] Re: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730
Ok, I will do that (the /var/crash files on that disk do show the generic kernel with the bug number), but first... I realize it seems from the top of the page that I am the only one this is affecting. SO I am looking at what I may be doing different. The main thing is that I have been using a USB drive as my test drive. So I downloaded the latest ISO and reistalled on one of the system partitions to see if running the test kernel you made still has problems with no USB-disk use. As if to confirm my guess, I got several kernel oops falts while writing the ISO to the USB stick. I have not had any problems on the new install so far, but this is another kernel too. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294729] Re: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730
Ok, I installed the test kernel set from your directory (I don't seem to be able to get -18) And from a system installed on an internal hard drive I do not get any errors at all. I did a file system check/repair from gparted on the external USB drive with no problems. I reinstalled the same ISO on the same USB stick while accessing as many things on the external drive as possible... still no problems. So there is a link between running the system on an external USB drive (or at least this one) and this error. I will now reboot to the external partition and select your bug kernel to make sure the problem is still there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1294729 Title: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Bug keeps showing up every 5 10 min or so. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294729] Re: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730
Wonderful... (no not really) The problem has vanished on any drive, any kernel. I am back up on the original install with the first kernel that caused the problem 15min. running... doing all those lowlatency things I was testing in the first place. No errors at all. My own conclusion is that there was a write error that didn't get caught and running a disk check fixed the problem... I don't know the system well enough to be able to tell if the error could be a disk access of some sort, but the problem is gone. Then if I boot to the old kernel I get whatever errors I haven't dealt with till I clean them out right after boot. I can tell they are from the new kernel because that is the package the bug is for. After I clean out all the old reports I can boot and reboot the old kernel with no problems. but as soon as I boot the new kernel (-18) the problem shows up again. This will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced. If this is a regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that introduced the problem. Yes it happened as soon as I rebooted after upgrading. The fresh install would have been vmlinuz-3.13.0-17-lowlatency There was no problem there. (the date stamp being mar 15) The upgrade installed vmlinuz-3.13.0-18-lowlatency. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294729] Re: BUG: pcmC1D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730
Booted old kernel (1.13.0-17), ran about 30 min with no problem. Booted back to 1.13.0-18 and got same problem in about the same time it took to fire up firefox. Second error report almost before cancelling the first. Now it seems to be doing fine typing this and running you tube video. Seems just right after login.
