Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1438510] Re: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp in 16.04 xenial and 16.10 yakkety

2017-04-03 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hui, do you know which patch in the pulseaudio package is responsible
for this revert? A quick glance and I cannot find it.

Bug description:
  Just installed 15.04 fresh from the latest ISO (beta2).

  I'm bummed to see my bluetooth headset (Bose Soundlink overear) seems
  to have regressed in functionality.

  In 14.10, I was able to set the output profile either to a2dp or
  hsp/hfp (telephony duplex).

  In 15.04, it only works in telephony duplex mode. I can't get high
  fidelity sound playback to work at all.

  This thread seems to be related, though the workaround within did not solve
the problem for me:
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=194006

  The bug is still present in 16.04 LTS and 16.10.

Ok, I am pretty sure the bug for this is actually 1574324. Plesae see
that bug, as I have just uploaded an SRU for xenial and yakkety. Bug
should be fixed in zesty.

I will markt his one as a dupe, please remove the duplciate marking if
the SRU does not fix the problem.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1633583] [NEW] Can not connect to Bluetooth headset

2016-10-15 Thread Luke Yelavich
Is it possible that the issue you are experiencing is similar to bug
1574324? One way to be sure is to try the potential fix that I have
given in one of my last few comments on that bug.

Thanks.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1608820] Re: Cannot use BT speaker - sink is suspended

2016-10-12 Thread Luke Yelavich
Ok, I think I've found the problem... Please update to the latest pulse
package from my yakkety PPA, ppa:themuso/ppa. Let me know if it makes a
difference.

I've re-applied the touch bluez patches, but removed one problematic
hunk that was probably needed for vivid, but not for >= xenial.

2016-09-27 Thread Luke Yelavich
Could you please test using the version of Pulse for yakkety from my
PPA? ppa:themuso/ppa.

I've disabled the Ubuntu touch bluetooth patches, and I want to know if
this changes anything for you. I'm already working on another bug
introduced by those patches in xenial, so its possible that this is
something similar.

Thanks.

Bug description:
System 'beeps' have become omnipresent in gnome. When I unplug my
  power cord, the notification system emits a system beep. When I try
  to do quick find in Firefox and I type a word that doesn't exist in
  the document, it beeps. When I tab-autocomplete in a gnome-terminal,
  it beeps if there are no completions. There are numerous other
  software packages that behave similarly.

  This is a problem for multiple reasons.

  First of all, there are some cases where the beep is used
  inappropriately -- I really *don't care* that my power cord is
  unplugged - in fact I unplugged it! I appreciate the technology
  advances that gnome-power-management has made in recent history, but I
  feel like I just want it to `go away' most of the time - I don't care
  about most of the things it informs me (besides low battery). Firefox
  has color feedback in the "Find" bar, why do I need auditory feedback
  too?

  Second of all, I can't control the volume of the beep, or disable it
  in all cases. In the case of the gnome-terminal I can disable the
  console "bell", but that only solves a single instance of the problem.
  In most other cases, there is nothing I can do to prevent the beeps.
  This can be very obtrusive in quite environments, and simply annoying
  in other cases. On my laptop (recent Dell Latitude D620) the beep is
  incredibly loud - it is very noticeable. It would be great to have a
  toggle button in the system "sound" preferences, or better yet, a
  volume slider for the system bell.

This is a large problem, affecting multiple packages and systems - I
  don't know the best way to fix it, but I do know that it is definitely
  an overall gnome UI issue. I've read that some programs literally
  just have the ASCII "BEL" coded into the source, so in some cases the
  problem may be unavoidable - I don't know enough of the technical
  details to recognize an appropriate solution.

  Any help dividing this into specific fixes for multiple projects or
  identifying the best place for an overall fix would be appreciated.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1565658] Re: Upgrade to 1.1.1 that was released in March 2016

2016-04-04 Thread Luke Yelavich
This late into the 16.04 cycle, this is not likely to happen. If there
is an urgent fix that is needed to fix an important bug, then we can
grab that patch and add it to the alsa-lib package in Ubuntu. Otherwise,
at this late stage, less than a month to release, a new upstream is not
necessarily going to be pulled in wholesale.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  I had been using PulseAudio in Gutsy for the past several months, so
  all the mundane stuff (groups, permissions, config files) is
  configured correctly. Since the upgrade to Hardy, ALSA is unable to
  use PulseAudio anymore. Details follow:

  - I am in the groups pulse-rt and pulse-access
  - ALSA without PulseAudio works just fine
  - PulseAudio seems to work fine with GStreamer

  Here's what my .asoundrc looks like:
  ===
  pcm.pulse {
  type pulse
  }
  ctl.pulse {
  type pulse
  }
  pcm.!default { type pulse }
  ctl.!default { type pulse }
  ===

  I'm attaching my default.pa with the bug.

  Here's the output of 'pulseaudio -vvv' when I try to run speaker-test (only
relevant portion here, full output attached):
  I: client.c: Created 1 Native client (UNIX socket client)
  I: protocol-native.c: Got credentials: uid=1000 gid=1000 success=1
  I: protocol-native.c: Enabled SHM for new connection
  I: client.c: Client 1 changed name from Native client (UNIX socket client)
to ALSA plug-in [speaker-test]
  I: client.c: Freed 1 ALSA plug-in [speaker-test]
  I: protocol-native.c: connection died.

  speaker-test fails with the following:
  WAV file(s)
  Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
  Buffer size range from 43 to 349525
  Period size range from 21 to 87382
  Using max buffer size 349524
  Periods = 4
  was set period_size = 87381
  was set buffer_size = 349524

  Unable to set hw params for playback: Input/output error
  Setting of hwparams failed: Input/output error
  speaker-test: pcm_pulse.c:115: pulse_stop: Assertion `pcm-stream' failed.
  Aborted

  TEST CASE:
  1. Create an .asoundrc file in your home directory to direct alsa to use the
pulseaudio plugin by default for all sound output. This is done with the
command asoundconf set-pulseaudio
  2. Attempt to run speaker-test with the following command: speaker-test
-twav -c2
  3. You should get the following error:

  *** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to create stream.
  speaker-test: pcm_pulse.c:115: pulse_stop: Assertion `pcm-stream' failed.

  speaker-test 1.0.15

  Playback device is default
  Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels

  Buffer size range from 128 to 1048576

  Periods = 4
  was set period_size = 262144
  was set buffer_size = 1048576
  Unable to set hw params for playback: Input/output error
  Setting of hwparams failed: Input/output error

  NOTE: This SRU is in two parts, one for alsa-lib, and the other for
alsa-plugins. The new revision of alsa-plugins requires the new revision of
alsa-lib in order to function properly.

  Intrepid status:
  This bug is fixed with alsa-lib 1.0.16 and alsa-plugins 1.0.16 which are both
in intrepid.

  Regression potential:
  The diffs in comments 8 and 9 introduce fixes and in the case of alsa-lib,
new symbols to be used by alsa-plugins to allow the pulse alsa-plugin to
functino properly No other plugin's functionality should be affected with these
changes.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294404] Re: 70% increase from 12.04 to 14.04 of /usr/share/alsa/ucm [ARM Files in X86]

2014-03-18 Thread Luke Yelavich
Its not affecting the functionality of your system is it? To only
package the ucm files for arm would make the packaging somewhat more
complex, and diverge us even more from Debian.

If you are space constrained, deleting these files should not be a
problem.
