[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1005226] Re: Marvell SATA Controller. Problem booting and detecting HDDs in kernel 3.2.0.

2014-01-15 Thread M. van Workum
@Christopher

Why do we need to resubmit all bugs we all encounter individually?
The bug is a perfect match to the attached link to the bug on kernel.org which
is apparently not fixed upstream yet.
Flooding the system with the same bug seems pointless too me, especially since
all related and possible viable comments would be wildly spread across multiple
bug reports, what's else is the point of marking this bug affecting me as well?

Why does it need more upstream testing?

This bug seems to have been fixed some time ago. Could someone back port
the patch to 13.10? (3.11)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1005226] Re: Marvell SATA Controller. Problem booting and detecting HDDs in kernel 3.2.0.

2014-01-15 Thread M. van Workum
Still having the same issue up to kernel 3.13 (Trusty tahr development
snapshot).
Looks like this will remain an issue for some time to come.

On the bright side, there seems to be some activity on patching a solution
upstream:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] Re: 10de:061f [Dell Precision M6500] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2014-01-15 Thread M. van Workum
@Christopher, running Xubuntu 12.04.3 with the nvidia 331.20 for quite
some time now, haven't encountered any issues yet!

Uname: 3.2.0-58-generic #88-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 3 17:37:58 UTC 2013

10de:061f [Dell Precision M6500] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield

Bug description:
The machine's (Dell Precision M6500, core i7, nVidia Quadro FX 3800M)
interface frequently (once an hour at least) locks up. The mouse almost always
functions fine but won't allow to click anything, it does however locks up
sometimes as well.
Sound continues to play just fine, as do all other background tasks.
Switching to TTY1 and switching back to TTY7 will mostly recover the issue by
relaunching the shell. Unfortunately it also results in a black screen from
time to time, leaving nothing but to relaunch the window manager loosing all
opened X applications. I have this issue since Ubuntu 12.10 and have failed
finding any solution for it. Have tried numerous Kernels and nVidia drivers to
no avail.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] Re: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-12-27 Thread M. van Workum
@Christopher, yes, it's that package.
I'm running the other older supplied driver (304.116) now, did encounter a
freeze of the desktop (similar to this bug), but there is nothing written in
syslog to back it up. Could be the same issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] Re: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-12-25 Thread M. van Workum
I've been running 12.04.3 for a couple of days now and unfortunately the error
came up again.
It does happen less frequent though, this is the first time, as before I only
managed to get by a couple of hours at best.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] Re: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-12-08 Thread M. van Workum
Hi christopher, I've bought this computer over 3 years ago and used nothing
but Ubuntu on it. As far as I can remember the problems started with the
Quantal release (12.10). Just random lockups, sometimes happening more
frequent. I've tried clocking down my GPU (Coolbits) to the lowest possible
clock, but it still happens.
First I thought it was somehow temperature related, both the GPU and CPU reach
80 degrees Celsius sometimes, but after some testing it even happens when there
around 50 degrees as well. I guess it does seem to be related with heavy CPU
usage, this seems to trigger the situation more often explaining the fact I
suspected the temperature at first.
I'm still wondering if it isn't hardware malfunction, is this a probable cause
for these kind of errors?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] Re: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-12-05 Thread M. van Workum
I already tried 3.12 before posting this bug from the mainline, didn't
make any difference so I reverted back to the packaged version. Forget
to add the tag though.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] Re: NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-12-05 Thread M. van Workum
I'm not supposed to mark the bug confirmed since I'm the one who posted it.
I didn't test the 3.13 kernel however, the packages from mainline aren't
supported in this distribution.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258231] [NEW] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-12-05 Thread M. van Workum
Public bug reported:

The machine's (Dell Precision M6500, core i7, nVidia Quadro FX 3800M) interface
frequently (once an hour at least) locks up. The mouse almost always functions
fine but won't allow to click anything, it does however locks up sometimes as
well.
Sound continues to play just fine, as do all other background tasks.

Switching to TTY1 and switching back to TTY7 will mostly recover the issue by
relaunching the shell.
Unfortunately it also results in a black screen from time to time, leaving
nothing but to relaunch the window manager loosing all opened X applications.

I have this issue since Ubuntu 12.10 and have failed finding any
solution for it. Have tried numerous Kernels and nVidia drivers to no
avail.

Have been posting a lot in these two bug reports and created this new one as
suggested by "penalvch":

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-10-24 Thread M. van Workum
Still happened although less frequent, recently upgraded to 13.10 with nVidia
331.13 and it started to happen again in the same frequency as from the
beginning.
Will contact Dell now since after some investigation this laptop seems to be
prone to GPU failure and since non of my other PC's, who all have nVidia
hardware, are affected, it has to be a hardware issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-09-24 Thread M. van Workum
I agree with Joris V. they are starting to loose there reason for existence.
Please don't try to be what you despised in the first place!
Sadly I guess closing bug 1 unfortunately does reflect this new strategy...

But on the brighter side of things.
After investigating going to Debian I noticed after a couple of updates in the
13.10 beta, using the nVidia 325.15 driver, I haven't encountered this issues
in a couple weeks now! Being cautiously optimistic! :)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-09-08 Thread M. van Workum
Tested 13.10 beta 1 and this issue still happens quite frequently (325.15
driver), going to try Debian as suggested by Joris V.
I have used Ubuntu primarily since 8.04 but this is getting to much of a burden
and it doesn't seemed to be fixed upstream..

Hi Christopher,

Why does it need a new bug report when the issue resembles this one
exactly?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-08-19 Thread M. van Workum
Unfortunately, working on the laptop detached from the bay didn't fix the
issue, still happening, but less frequent (once every hour).
Tried the newest 325.15 driver to no avail.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-07-29 Thread M. van Workum
Just installed the latest beta 325.08, resulting in the same behavior, it
happens to me once or twice every 20 minutes.
Detaching the laptop from the dock solves it though. Very strange...

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-07-29 Thread M. van Workum
This is getting to a point which makes my computer unusable. It seems to happen
more and more.
I started working on 12:00 today and it happened to me over 17 times already!

Tried jtree's solutions which unfortunately doesn't work for me. Anyone?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-07-24 Thread M. van Workum
@Rocko:
This could be the case, but it never happened to me before 12.10.
I'm using a Quadro FX 3800M and tried drivers 304.*, 310.*, 313.* and 319.* in
12.10 and 13.04 and this error happens quite frequently.
I did notice something that might be of interest. I'm using this laptop (Dell
precision M6500) mostly in a docking station with 2 monitors attached. The
other day I was working on it without the docking station (just the laptop
screen) and it didn't happen at all in that session. Makes me wonder.
Another footnote is flash, this seems to trigger the behavior as well.
