[Kernel-packages] [Bug 776999] Re: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions

2016-03-10 Thread Mario Splivalo
I case anyone runs into this later in time:

I just got W520 and moved my Trusty installation from T520. Had various
issues, mostly explained above. Upgraded to nvidia-352, upgraded to
linux-image-generic-lts-wily (linux 4.2.0), problems persisted.

Then I just disabled VT-d in BIOS, and all the problems are gone. Didn't
need to supply any special kernel boot parameters (my
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line holds only 'verbose' in it).

I am running BIOS v1.30.

Title:
[Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I got the latest Ubuntu installed on a Lenovo W520 with graphics set
to Nvidia discrete card. The laptop freezes, however, on power-
management actions, such as brightness change and sleep/wake-up. A
particularly annoying problem is that the machine freezes
automatically after a GUI login if I had started gnome-power-manager
previously. I have to remove the gnome-power-manager settings
directory in order to get back in.

If I boot with acpi=off parameter to the kernel things work fine, but
then again no ACPI functionality is available.

mount -t overlayfs misinforms when nonexisting directories are

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Consider the directory structure like this:

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> ls -al
  total 20
  drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 .
  drwxrwxrwt 9 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 ..
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 lower
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 mounting
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 upper

Mounting upper over lower on mounting mount point works just fine:

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> mount -t overlayfs myoverlay -o

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> df -Th mounting/

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs>

However if the directory name is misspelled (that is, we're providing
wrong directory), the error message is misleading:

  32 root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> mount -t overlayfs myoverlay -o
lowerdir=IAMWRONG,upperdir=upper mounting/
mount: special device myoverlay does not exist

I'm running this on Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, using 3.13.0-61-generic kernel.

I'm not sure if this fits under 'linux' package, but I can't seem to be able
to find 'mount' package in Launchpad.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1483325] RfKill.txt

Title:
mount -t overlayfs misinforms when nonexisting directories are
  provided

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Consider the directory structure like this:

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> ls -al
  total 20
  drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 .
  drwxrwxrwt 9 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 ..
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 lower
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 mounting
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 upper

Mounting upper over lower on mounting mount point works just fine:

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> mount -t overlayfs myoverlay -o
lowerdir=lower,upperdir=upper mounting/
  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> df -Th mounting/
Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
  myoverlay overlayfs 219G 94G 114G 46% /tmp/ofs/mounting
  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs>

However if the directory name is misspelled (that is, we're providing
wrong directory), the error message is misleading:

  32 root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> mount -t overlayfs myoverlay -o
lowerdir=IAMWRONG,upperdir=upper mounting/
mount: special device myoverlay does not exist

I'm running this on Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, using 3.13.0-61-generic kernel.

I'm not sure if this fits under 'linux' package, but I can't seem to be able
to find 'mount' package in Launchpad.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1483325] Re: mount -t overlayfs misinforms when nonexisting directories are provided

2015-08-10 Thread Mario Splivalo
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Consider the directory structure like this:

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> ls -al
  total 20
  drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 .
  drwxrwxrwt 9 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 ..
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 lower
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 mounting
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 18:09 upper

Mounting upper over lower on mounting mount point works just fine:

  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> mount -t overlayfs myoverlay -o
lowerdir=lower,upperdir=upper mounting/
  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> df -Th mounting/
Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
  myoverlay overlayfs 219G 94G 114G 46% /tmp/ofs/mounting
  root@MIKE /tmp/ofs>

However if the directory name is misspelled (that is, we're providing
wrong directory), the error message is misleading:

  32 root@MIKE /tmp/ofs> mount -t overlayfs myoverlay -o
lowerdir=IAMWRONG,upperdir=upper mounting/
mount: special device myoverlay does not exist

I'm running this on Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, using 3.13.0-61-generic kernel.

- I'm not sure if this fits under 'linux' package, but I can't seem to be
- able to find 'mount' package in Launchpad.
