[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400235] Re: 10de:11fc [Dell Precision M4800] Screen does not wake up after sleep
I already did try the "resume-track" debugging procedure, but it gave nothing, so I guess the problem here is not the resume process, but the turning in screen process. ** Description changed: When the laptop is either set to sleep by entering Fn-F1 or by timeout, the screen is black after waking it up again (using the power button, it does not wake by mousepad movement or key presses). In earlier Ubuntu versions (14.04), a workaround was to enter a terminal console by hitting CTRL-ALT-F1, CTRL-ALT-F7, but that does not seem to work anymore. The problem is is present in todays (2014-12-8) Vivid daily image (booted with "nomodeset", but not done any configuration of the screen). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 499237] Re: Doesn't detect usb flash drive as SSD
I guess this might not be fixable at all. Getting spin speed/SSD or not is done with this command (see http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.bcache.devel/554): $ sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda|grep Rot Nominal Media Rotation Rate: Solid State Device This is my internal SSD hard drive. I tried with a rotational hard drive attached with USB, but get no information about that. Same with a USB memory stick. This leads me to believe that it is not possible to detect if a USB connected drive is SSD or not, and the kernel assumes rotational drive as default. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499237 Title: Doesn't detect usb flash drive as SSD Status in The Linux Kernel: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a 4G usb flash drive, performed updates as of 19 Dec 2009, and installed bootchart. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1169117] Re: REGRESSION: MBIM kernel suppport should be disabled until userspace support available (breaks Ericsson H5321 etc.)

This caused a regression for users wanting to use NCM." For background on this change please see Bug #1102343. This could be solved in different ways: 1) Remove "cdc_mbim.ko" from packages like linux-image-extra-3.8.0-XX-YY. Easy, but makes it harder for people to experiment with MBIM and add userspace support 2) Set the kernel parameter "prefer_mbim" to false for "cdc_ncm" module. The required code for this option to exist seems to be in Ubuntu Raring packages in commit 04188f3010f64ddf2c75c3f4953eee9bdb4f5cc1. 3) Debian has solved it by patching the kernel to reverse the default to be not to use MBIM: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/kernel-svn-changes/2013-March/018852.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2013/03/msg00611.html WORKAROUND: Add in /etc/modprobe.d/cdc_ncm.conf : options cdc_ncm prefer_mbim=N To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1169117/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1169117] Re: REGRESSION: MBIM kernel suppport should be disabled until userspace support available (breaks Ericsson H5321 etc.)
Probably, but it will not solve this bug. See bug #1102343. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169117 Title: REGRESSION: MBIM kernel suppport should be disabled until userspace support available (breaks Ericsson H5321 etc.) Status in The Linux Kernel: Fix Released Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “modemmanager” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “linux” package in Debian: Fix Committed Bug description: "commit bd329e1 ("net: cdc_ncm: do not bind to NCM compatible MBIM devices") introduced a new policy, preferring MBIM for dual NCM/MBIM functions if the cdc_mbim driver was enabled. This caused a regression for users wanting to use NCM." This could be solved in different ways: 1) Remove "cdc_mbim.ko" from packages like linux-image-extra-3.8.0-XX- YY. Easy, but makes it harder for people to experiment with MBIM and add userspace support 2) Set the kernel parameter "prefer_mbim" to false for "cdc_ncm" module. This could be done by adding a file "/etc/modprobe.d/avoid- mbim.conf" with content: options cdc_ncm prefer_mbim=N This will allow people wanting to test MBIM easy access by removing or editing the file. Then the question is if this file should stay in modemmanager package or maybe in the kernel package? The required code for this option to exist seems to be in Ubuntu Raring packages in commit 04188f3010f64ddf2c75c3f4953eee9bdb4f5cc1. 3) Debian has solved it by patching the kernel to reverse the default to be not to use MBIM: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/dbmrrKybrWTJ0XZGsB3B http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2013/03/msg00611.html See also bug #1102343.
