[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2063308] Re: lenovo p1g5 suspend issues with docking stations

2024-04-25 Thread Mark Pearson
Can we get the system config details please - CPU, GPU in particular. Also
confirm if WWAN is enabled
Which dock is being used?

Can you confirm if AMT is enabled or not in the BIOS?
We've seen issues with AMT enabled with the TBT dock, especially with
networking.

Will look to reproduce the issue with high power numbers after the ME FW
update - agreed that looks like a FW issue.

Title:
lenovo p1g5 suspend issues with docking stations

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Lenovo Docking Station Issue with Ubuntu 22.04 Sleep mode Recovery

  Hello,
We are having trouble with our lenovo p1 laptops docking stations. When
waking from suspend on Ubuntu with a docking station is an issue for some users
even with Intel AMT disabled in BIOS.
The exact steps to reproduce are as follows:
  1) Suspend/sleep the laptop
  2) Plug the docking station into the laptop
  3) Wake the laptop

The sleep settings in BIOS are set to Linux S3. Docking station
issues, such as Ethernet not working after waking, do not occur with
Windows/Linux sleep settings, but the laptop doesn't properly suspend
processes in Windows/Linux sleep mode and will overheat the laptop
when in an enclosed space such as a bag. Linux S3 is the only way
we've found laptops to not overheat after suspending, but we that
makes the dock inoperable after waking from suspend.

  [Fix]
Revert the offending patch series, which is to bring some minor power
  saving.

  [Test]
Vendor did extensive tests and didn't find any regression, and the power
  consumption remains the same.

  [Where problems could occur]
Maybe on some system the series can save some energy, so reverting will
  cause some power consumption increase.

2021-09-23 Thread Mark Pearson
Thanks Aaron,

Customer noted that this didn't help him - but I assume the above only helps in
hybrid mode.
Customer is quite grumpy...but David is on PTO and he has the system for
reproducing so I'm just trying to manage expectations at the moment. Let me
know if there are any other suggestions.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1938096] Re: [Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th] [SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57] touchpad lagging after resume from suspend

2021-09-04 Thread Mark Pearson
Just to pick up on some of the above comments:

 - my understanding is this is a touchpad firmware bug so not much point
reporting it to other distro's as well - it's not a Canonical/Ubuntu
issue either IMO.

 - Using S0ix/modern suspend (or 'Windows and Linux') sleep mode setting
in the BIOS is the fix. If you see other problems around S0ix they
should be reported so we can fix those (you shouldn't see excessive
battery drain). That's the supported/tested/certified sleep mode on
these Tigerlake CPUs.

We are working with Synaptics on a S3 fix - but it's been lower priority
I'm afraid. I don't have an update or ETA yet.

Title:
  [Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th] [SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57] touchpad lagging after
  resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hardware: Thinkpad X1 Carbon, 9th generation
  Touchpad: SYNA8009:00 06CB:CE57

Right after a clean reboot, the touchpad works fine. No issues
whatsoever. But after resuming from even its first suspend after a
clean boot, the touchpad feels less responsive, choppy or even laggy.

I have tried removing and re-inserting some HID kernel modules,
"psmouse", and setting i915.psr_enabled=0 in kernelstubs. Haven't
found anything that fixes it yet. The trackpoint works flawlessly all
the time, so that is the current backup when I don't have an external
  mouse connected.

My installed OS is Pop!_Os 21.04, but I have tested and confirmed this
on a live USB with Ubuntu 21.04 as well.

I have also tried upgrading to the latest 5.13.5 and 5.14.0rc2 kernels
from the mainline PPA, and tried bumping the libinput10 to 1.18.0 from
  the impish repos.

  To recreate:
  1. Reboot a X1C9 machine and see that the touchpad works fine
  2. Suspend it (to RAM, need to change a BiOS setting so it doesn't do a
software suspend)
  3. Resume from suspend and see that touchpad acts differently and less
responsive than right after a clean boot

  What is expected:
  1. Same responsive touchpad experience after resuming from suspend as right
after a clean boot.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1938697] Re: Kernel driver support issue between 5.4.0-74-generic and 5.4.0-80-generic

2021-08-09 Thread Mark Pearson
As a note - I have an internal Lenovo bug tracking this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/sutton/+bug/1938174

I did a bit of investigation just before I went on vacation and I
believe this is a regression in the Ubuntu kernel - I'm not seeing the
issue with a vanilla kernel.org kernel

Kernel driver support issue between 5.4.0-74-generic and

Bug description:
I have found an issue after upgrading my Kernel from 5.4.0-74-generic
  to 5.4.0-80-generic on Ubuntu 20.04.

It appears that support for the second ethernet port on my Lenovo
m90n-1 has been dropped or isn't working as expected. After upgrading
to 5.4.0-80-generic my second ethernet port

Both ethernet ports use the r8169 driver. If I switch back to the
previous kernel 5.4.0-74-generic. The second ethernet port is usable
  again.

I did attempt under 5.4.0-80-generic to see if I could get an error
message. When the driver attempts to discover the second ethernet
port the following error is thrown.

 "unknown chip XID fcf"

  Support output below:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1915063] Re: Windows 10 wil not install using qemu-system-x86_64

2021-03-12 Thread Mark Pearson
We believe that the latest version of Windows doesn't play nice with the
older version of QEMU - it seems Windows is broken somewhere between
4.2.0-2 and 5.0.0-6 on AMD Ryzen based processors (which is what we have
on the P620).

What are the recommendations for the best way for a Ubuntu customer to
get going again, with an updated version of QEMU?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1861837] Re: machine doesn't come up after suspend and re-opening the lid

2020-02-04 Thread Mark Pearson
I don't know if it's the same issue - but recently on Debian an issue was found
with the tpm driver that was preventing suspend and resume working on a number
of systems:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=939170
