i915: loss of the screen connected in DP to my dockstation

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since a few versions of the kernel I'm losing the screen connected to
my dockstation thinkpad using displayport. My running laptop is a
  thinkpad T14s

  I'm currently running

but I had the same issue while running "linux-image-5.15.0-60-generic" and I
think with "linux-image-5.15.0-58-generic" too.

When losing the screen, I'm getting "i915 :00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR*

During the last screen loss, I tried to connect the DisplayPort to
another screen to eliminate the possibility that it could be a issue
  with it.

Not only did the other screen not work either, but I got the following

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1819486] Re: Crash from :i915 module with 4.15.0-46-generic using multi-display

2019-11-14 Thread Nicolas Devillers
Hi,

This bug was present and fixed by reverting the i915 patch. I don't
understand why it status would be changed to invalid.

hotplug-irq-ack-on-i965-g4x.patch" ?

Kai, It looks like that the intel driver was not bundle in this kernel?
No kernel panic but WM runs in software mode and additional display are
not being detected.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2014-08-29 Thread Nicolas Devillers
This issue is now fixed for me with recents kernels on Ubuntu 14.04. I'm
currently using 3.13.0-32-generic.
My amd fglrx driver is 2:13.350.1-0ubuntu2
My intel driver is i915-3.15-3.13-dkms

I have GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=video.use_native_backlight=1 into my
/etc/default/grub

Everything seems to work correctly (brithness, suspend/resume)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1225811] Re: 1002:6601 [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] Can't toggle backlight brightness

2014-04-16 Thread Nicolas Devillers
As (probably) a large number of user on linux right now, I'm using the
following workaround to handle this issue:

'echo 4590 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness' as root

another option might be to use the following xrandr command:

xrandr --output [yourscreendevice]

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1225811] Re: 1002:6601 [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] Can't toggle backlight brightness

2014-04-16 Thread Nicolas Devillers
xrandr --output [yourscreendevice] --set Backlight 80

However, in my case (maybe because I have 2 video adapter [cpu/amd] )
the latter xrandr command is equivalent to write in
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness which doesn't work.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1225811] Re: 1002:6601 [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] Can't toggle backlight brightness

2013-12-17 Thread Nicolas Devillers
Christopher,

This bug is indeed still an issue on the latest 13.10 kernel : Linux
3.11.0-14-generic. I'll try to check with upstream soon but didn't find
time for that lately. However, unfortunately I don't think upstream
kernel provide change relevant to fix this issue.

Christopher, according to my tests, so far the problem is only
reproducible when the parameter acpi_backlight=vendor is present.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-09-11 Thread Nicolas Devillers
acpi_osi=Linux is not useful actually, and i removed it from my grub config.
acpi_backlight=vendor is required on raring and saucy at least if I want to
be able to manage the backlight. Precise and quantal could be affected as well.
I have to check to see if the problem as always been there.

As there is a certified version of ubuntu for inspiron 5521 based on
12.04 maybe Canonical could provide information on weither they needed
to add some specific patch/configuration to make it work on it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-09-10 Thread Nicolas Devillers
I just tried using a live ubuntu 13.04. I couldn't reproduce with the
crash on resume either using acpi_backlight=vendor or without.
However, you still can't control the lightness without it.

Please note that it was a live 13.04 using 3.8.0.19 kernel and default
configuration.

My previous installation was at least adding the i8ktools module to
prevent overheating/excessive fan noise

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-21 Thread Nicolas Devillers
I could reproduce with kernel 3.11.0.3.4 and bios A09. Is there any
difference between this kernel and the one provided in your link ?

The bug doesn't seems to happens if I don't set acpi_osi=Linux
acpi_backlight=vendor in my /etc/default/grub. But I wouldn't be able
to modify lightness then.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
output is:

A09
06/25/2013

2013-08-21 Thread Nicolas Devillers
My thought are to try with http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/daily/current/ as v3.11-rc6-saucy seems to be older than
my current kernel

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-20 Thread Nicolas Devillers
- I just updated Bios to version A09, this should not have effect according to
the matching changelog.
- Bug doesn't seems to happens or seems to be less frequent while using kernel
3.9.0.7 (to be confirmed).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214287] Re: [Dell Inspiron 15R 5521] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-20 Thread Nicolas Devillers
Hi,

I already patched my bios to A09 and upgraded today to the kernel:

linux-meta (3.11.0.3.4) saucy; urgency=low
  * linux ABI 3.11.0-3
 -- Tim Gardner tim.gard...@canonical.com Mon, 19 Aug 2013 14:42:28 +

I'll wait to see if I can reproduce with this configuration and try
mainline kernel in such case.

Nicolas
