[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1729389] Re: [Intel 8260/8265] Bluetooth peripherals work for a few seconds, then don't react

2018-01-27 Thread PJSingh5000
My bluetooth mouse is connected now, but I had to follow a special
process...

WHAT WORKS:

I had to turn OFF my wireless, make sure bluetooth was ON, and then
connect/pair the mouse.
After the bluetooth mouse connected successfully, I was able to turn wi-fi ON
again.

Now, my mouse automatically connects a few seconds after logging in.

It has not disconnected for the brief time I have used it, but I will
post back if I notice any new issues.

WHAT DOESN'T WORK:

* I found that the previous work-around in comment #17 no longer works.
* I found that newer kernels did not work either.

NOTES ON KERNELS:

I tested mainline kernels 4.14.9 thru 4.14.15. All of these newer
kernels produce the following error message during installation: "Error!
Bad return status for module build on kernel". (Note: this is most
likely because I have the Nvidia proprietary drivers version 384.111
installed).

However, kernel 4.14.8 installs just fine. But this did not fix the
bluetooth problem, until performed the above procedure.

OTHER THINGS I TRIED:

I did execute "sudo bluetoothctl", and I tried to "trust" and "pair" my
mouse from the command line, prior to performing the "wi-fi-off/wi-fi-
on" process. However, I do not think "bluetoothctl" helped.

2018-01-27 Thread PJSingh5000
I am running artful 17.10.1 with linux-firmware version 1.169.2.

I am assuming that version 1.169.2 also has the fix??
In any case, it does not work.

Also, the work-around (Comment #17) no longer works for me.

Bug description:
When running artful on a new Zenbook Pro (uses Intel Wireless 8265), I
get a hung shutdown with the message "wlp3s0: failed to remove key (1,
ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff) from hardware (-22)". The kernel is also trying to
load firmware versions that do not exist on the system i.e. versions
33 then 32 of the firmware. It then seems to load version 31 of the
firmware. Wireless features seem to work normally. The issues are just
  at shutdown time.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1729389] Re: Bluetooth mouse and keyboard connects, works for a few seconds, then doesn't react

2017-11-22 Thread PJSingh5000
Correction...

Kernel 4.12 is working (I had inadvertently selected the wrong kernel on
the Grub screen during my last test).

$ uname -r
4.12.0-041200-generic

I will continue to test 4.12 to see if the Bluetooth mouse unexpectedly
disconnects.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1729389] Re: Bluetooth mouse and keyboard connects, works for a few seconds, then doesn't react

2017-11-22 Thread PJSingh5000
So far, not working with 4.14, 4.13, 4.12.

With each kernel, I see the messages:

Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c52 tx timeout
Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c24 tx timeout

I will continue to test older versions and report back.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1729389] Re: Bluetooth mouse and keyboard connects, works for a few seconds, then doesn't react

2017-11-15 Thread PJSingh5000
If I implement the work-around in comment #17 and use kernel 4.13.12, my
bluetooth mouse connects automatically when I reboot.

Unfortunately, the work-around seems to still be required for kernel
4.13.12.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1729389] Re: Bluetooth mouse and keyboard connects, works for a few seconds, then doesn't react

2017-11-15 Thread PJSingh5000
Hummm... doesn't look good...

Before installing 4.13.12, I reverted the change in comment #17.

$ uname -r
4.13.12-041312-generic

I see these errors in the logs:

bluetoothhd : Failed to add UUID: Not Powered (0x0f)

...and...

Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c52 tx timeout

Also, bluetooth is turned off in the gnome-shell topbar. If I try to open go to
Blue Tooth settings from the gnome shell top bar, I get an error that system
settings can not be opened; I have an option to Force Quit or Wait. Wait
doesn't produce results.

$ rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no

Going into directly system settings first, and then selecting Bluetooth
from the left panel shows that Bluetooth is turned off. If I activate
it, nothing shows up in the list of devices. If I navigate away from
this in System Settings, and return, again Bluetooth shows as
deactivated, but rfkill list does show that it is no longer soft
blocked.

See if the following provides a workaround...

$ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

# Add to the end:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

# Restart

This was suggsted on the following RedHat bug report:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1160322] Re: [ 21.125934] INFO @wl_cfg80211_attach : Registered CFG80211 phy

2014-10-31 Thread PJSingh5000
Issue appears on fresh install of 14.04.1.

$ uname -a
Linux PS001 3.13.0-39-generic #66-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 28 13:30:27 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04
Codename: trusty

I did not have this issue on a previous install of 14.04.1 x64 on the
same machine, using legacy boot and primary ext4 / partition without a
separate /boot partition.

I updated my system to EFI and LVM, using a spearate vfat /efi partition
with / on a logical volume, and now I see this message at each boot up.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1173761] Re: 14e4:43b1 Broadcom Corporation Device 43b1 (rev 03) - not supported

2013-08-01 Thread PJSingh5000
I was able to successfully build this module in kernel 3.8.0-27 per
comment 29
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1173761/comments/29
on 3.11.0-031100rc3-generic).

$ sudo dkms build -m b43b1 -v 6.30.223.95

Kernel preparation unnecessary for this kernel. Skipping...

Building module:
cleaning build area
make KERNELRELEASE=3.8.0-27-generic
cleaning build area

DKMS: build completed.

However, I could not remove the existing wl module (using "sudo rmmod
wl") because Ubuntu/Linux kept insisting that the wl module was in use.
(This was the case even if I disabled wreless from the BIOS). I even
tried "sudo rmmod --force wl", but it did not work. Nevertheless, I
proceeded to install the new module and it worked after a reboot.

However, I want to point out that this also actually fixed a different
bug in 3.8.0-27! I was unable to shutdown or restart the machine. It
would just hang during the shutdown process. This is the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1176028. After installing
hybrid-v35_64-nodebug-pcoem-6_30_223_95, my computer shutdowns and
restarts normally. I am mentioning this because the wireless fix (or
something included in the fix) may be related to bug 1176028.

Just to confirm everything is workign smoothly, I did a fresh install of
13.04, updated all packages, and then aplied hybrid-v35_64-nodebug-
pcoem-6_30_223_95. Both bugs #1173761 and #1176028 seem to be fixed.

I could only test Wireless 802.11n, since I do not have a 802.1ac
network. Also, I can not verify if the 5Ghz or the 2.4GHz band is being
utilized. Finally, Bluetooth, included with the Broadcom 43b1 device,
still does not work.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found"

2013-08-01 Thread PJSingh5000
In Ubuntu 13.04 x64 with kernel 3.8, my flopy drive now works perfectly.
The systems recognizes the drive and displays an icon fo it on the Unity
Launcher. I can click on the icon and am able to view the contents of
the disk.
