[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1216492] Re: No Wireless

2013-08-26 Thread Rick D
This issue is on a new computer with a new install of 13.04.

I know how to install the latest upstream kernel, but how do I get it
back to what it was before as I'll need the security updates as it is my
son's computer.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1096989] Re: 10ec:8179 No wireless support for Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 (RTL8188E)

2013-08-25 Thread Rick D
Is there anything I can do to help? I just brought a brand new Toshiba
Satellite L75 and it's a bummer I can't put Ubuntu on it thanks to this
little bug.

I'm on 12.10. The wifi adapter doesn't seem to be recognized at all:
doesn't show up in NetworkManager, no adapter listed by iwconfig. The
wifi card seems to be a RTL8188E (lspci -nn tells me it's 10ec:8179).

  I've tried to:
     - install the Realtek driver for the RTL8188CE (seemed close enough...)
     - install the driver from https://github.com/tianon/linux-rtlwifi-8188ce
     - install linux-backports-modules-cw
     - upgrade to kernel 3.7

  None of those worked.
