[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1964373] [NEW] Dell latitude e65640 touchpad and display problem.
Public bug reported: After upgrade from Ubuntu 18 to 20, touch-pad and display stop working correctly. touchepad works only from time to time, but I can't find pattern why. On the other hand display just after upgrade worked correctly, but lately I have to work in recovery mode because on normal drivers refreshing is terrible and from time to time display turn black and it is impossible to switch it to normal mode. [0] This bug can cause significant problems because applications that copy files expect the target file to match the source immediately after the copy. After upgrading from Linux 5.4 to Linux 5.10, our Docker-based CI tests started failing due to this bug, since Ruby's IO.copy_stream uses this system call. We have worked around the problem by touching the target file before using it, but this shouldn't be necessary. Other projects, such as Rust, have added similar workarounds. [1] As discussed in the linux-fsdevel mailing list [2], the bug appears to be present in Linux 5.6 to 5.10, but not in Linux 5.11. We should be able to cherry-pick the following upstream patches to fix this. Could you cherry-pick them to 5.10.x stable? I've confirmed that these patches, applied from top to bottom to that branch, pass the reproduction test [3]: 82a763e61e2b601309d696d4fa514c77d64ee1be 9b91b6b019fda817eb52f728eb9c79b3579760bc The diffstat: fs/overlayfs/file.c | 59 +++ 1 file changed, 31 insertions(+), 28 deletions(-) Note that these patches do not pick cleanly into 5.6.x - 5.9.x stable. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1775131] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 networking issue (connection drops after approx. 15 minutes)
i have the same problem over here, i posted more details over here: https://github.com/mailcow/mailcow-dockerized/issues/2918 i believe to reproduce the problem you can: - set up multiple subnets under the same interface name - make sure systemd-networkd is the only system to handle public interface (no NetworkManager or netplan) - install somesoftware which uses networkd-dispatcher (like mailcow on docker) - wait a week to see 1 minute downtime upon hitting the concurrency described above OR - my interfaces also restart (causing disconnets) upon systemd updates (via apt upgrade), or systemd re-install (with chances of 4 to 5 of hitting disconnect) pls understand that to hit the concurrency problem you probably need to have lot's of IPs or subnets in your network configuration file in /etc/systemd/network/enpXXX.network (i got 7 ipv4 addresses there) best regards, stan ** Bug watch added: github.com/mailcow/mailcow-dockerized/issues #2918 https://github.com/mailcow/mailcow-dockerized/issues/2918 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775131 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 networking issue (connection drops after approx. 15 minutes) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm currently troubleshooting some network issues on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic. After checking a few logs I noticed that the networkd-dispatcher is generating errors. The problem is that I lose the connection specifically towards the internet after approx. 15 minutes. Internal facing interfaces (same hardware and driver) seem to behave differently and remain properly connected to the internal network. These network-dispatcher errors seem to occur simultanously when the connection on the external interface permanently drops. The physical network links still appears to be online when the connection is lost. I'm still also able to ping the default gateway from my provider to access the Internet. But all IP addresses beyond this gateway on the Internet seem to be unreachable. I have disabled TCP offloading and firewalls to eliminate any influences. But that didn't work. The ARP table shows that my gateway is a STALE record after the connection drops. So it seems related to the ARP-table or something likewise. Here's my test: 1. On node A, create two different files on a shared NFS mount: "test1.txt" and "test2.txt". 2. On node B, continuously show the contents of the first file: "while true; do cat test1.txt; done" 3. On node B, run a process that keeps "test1.txt" open. For example, with Python, run: f = open('/nfs-mount/test1.txt', 'r') 4. Rename test2.txt via "mv -f test2.txt test1.txt" On node B, I see the contents of the original test1.txt indefinitely, even after I disabled attribute caching and the lookup cache. I can make the while loop in step 2 show the new content if I perform one of these actions: 1. Run "ls /nfs-mount" 2. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1757008] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’]
@Sami: the compilation is done automatically by the installer. You can either plug in Ethernet or reboot and chose Advanced Ubuntu boot option, scroll down to the previous ver. of the Kernel (4.13) and boot with it normally to get the WiFi connection back. Then "See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed" - just a couple of steps that don't affect your overall system if you "Create the file /etc/apt/preferences.d /proposed-updates with this content:...". Then sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install broadcom-sta-dkms/xenial-proposed. This should successfully compile for both 4.13 and 4.15 kernels. Then reboot normally and forget about this incident till the kernel testing flow breaks again next year or whenever. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bcmwl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757008 Title: bcmwl-kernel-source: bcmwl kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’] Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in broadcom-sta package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The module fails to build, as it is missing the necessary patches for the latest HWE kernel. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 930447] Re: Unable to start Ubuntu 12.04 live CD with syslinux loader on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to bug in PAE kernel, initramfs or syslinux
Roland, Thanks for trying. In 2012 an Ubuntu developer made a private version of 12.04 with PAE support, so I am still using Ubuntu with my old laptop. The Ubuntu team has people who could fix this the right way, but as you said, they are lazy. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 946899] Re: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
After half a day of working on 3.8.13-030813-generic, got the "[drm:i915_hangcheck_hung]" again. At least it was sort-of recoverable, as I was able to log into another tty and backup i915_error_state (attached). Hope it helps someone for diagnosing the problem. When returning to tty7, Screen was still flackering whenever I moved the mouse, and it didn't seem to respond to any clicks, so I had to logout by CTRL+ALT+DEL and then I could log back in without problems. ** Attachment added: "i915_error_state" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/946899/+attachment/3792231/+files/i915_error_state -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946899 Title: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 946899] Re: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
Thanks, peterbo. Sorry, got confused. Of course, I'm running it on 13.04, too. I have had these really weird crashes before (rebooting by itself) and they went away after one of the kernel upgrades, maybe even when upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04. Got the Hangcheck timer elapsed ones instead. That is, sometimes, when I return to my laptop, it is turned off even when I'm pretty sure I left it on, so maybe they have just been happening while idle. Now with the rc5 kernel I got the original crash (without error log) within hours again, so I got discouraged from trying any further. It's my work laptop, running dual monitors, and I really can't afford to experiment too much as I need it to run and do its job. I still can't believe that this is such a persistent bug (several bugs?). The Linux kernel used to be considered bomb-proof! Apparently its bugs, too... Thanks, peterbo, for the link incl. installation instructions! Unfortunately after two days, I had another crash with the new kernel on Ubuntu 12.10. The mouse and keyboard stopped responding and before I could try to do CTRL+ALT+F4 or CTRL+ALT+SysRq+REISUB, the laptop just turned itself off. No traces left in syslog. Very annoying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946899 Title: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1124933] Re: [Dell Latitude E6320] late resume failure
Dear Chris, thanks for the tip. I upgraded my bios last night and will see if the problem re-occurs. However, I have been having lots of other problems and started using a newer kernel to keep my machine in working condition, while I haven't been pointed to this bug report again. So I won't be able to tell whether the bios update did the trick or a different kernel, or whether it was a once-off problem.
