[Kernel-packages] [Bug 549741] Re: [Dell Latitude 131L] keyboard not recognized properly; logs fill up with messages
hi guys, Well now, that is one old bug I reported. The 'powerd down, remove battery, restart it all' workaround didn't quite fix it for me but it was no big deal otherwise. And since the laptop had died since then I have no problem if we close this bug. cheers Tom -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549741 Title: [Dell Latitude 131L] keyboard not recognized properly; logs fill up with messages Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: hi Running Ubuntu Lucid amd64 on a Dell Latitude 131L (AMD chips), updated twice a day at the moment. Linux seems not to recognize the keyboard in my laptop well. Starting early in the boot process (well before X kicks in) I see error messages on the screen. The same messages then swamp the logs. [19670.835707] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e00d ' to make it known. = This goes on every second until shut down. It's been there for a while now, but I haven't made -or found- a bug report about it yet. I did some googling and it seems related to not-so-standard handling of hotkeys (which you would find on a laptop) by the bios. However, I have not found a solution. It is possible to 'shut up' the messages by assigning e00d to an unused keycode, but that is just hiding the symptom. Also that kills the screen saver / blackout and it breaks my repeating keys, so not an option really. WORKAROUND: - shutdown the pc - Remove both battery and AC - push the 'on' switch several times - Plug the battery and AC back in --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1595935] Re: Suspend not working on Ubuntu 16.04
hi again Christopher, Found some time to test various kernels as indicated. Here are the results in correct chronological order: 0) 15.10 / kernel 4.2.0: last known good configuration 1) 16.04 / kernel 4.4.0: error found, bug reported then tested: 2) v4.6-rc7-wily / 4.6.0: works as expected 3) v4.5-wily / 4.5.0: error found 4) v4.5.7-wily / 4.5.7: works as expected 5) v4.5-4-yakkety / 4.5.4: works as expected 6) v4.5-2-wily / 4.5.2: works as expected 7) v4.5-1-wily / 4.5.1: works as expected My conclusion would be that the error was introduced in 4.4.0, persisted in 4.5.0 but got fixed in 4.5.1. If you want me to test any versions between 4.2.0 and 4.4.0, let me know. For now I'll be running one of the higher versions that work for me as daily driver. cheers Tom -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1595935 Title: Suspend not working on Ubuntu 16.04 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Suspend stopped working after upgrade from 15.10 to 16.04. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1595935] Re: Suspend not working on Ubuntu 16.04
Hi Christopher, I noticed the tag ;bios-outdated-a10'. I'm aware of the newer bios being available, but although Dell offers this laptop with Ubuntu preinstalled and supported they somehow don't seem to offer a bios update that is not windoze dependent :-( Downloaded kernel 4.6-rc7 from mainline as in your instructions and things are working fine. I can manually suspend and resume and when I close the lid it goes to sleep nicely. Fan cuts out, hdd spins down. When opening the lid I'm back where I was, so all works as it should. Fan is a lot quieter too, so I guess it's using less power now as well. regards Tom ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream-4.6-rc7 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1595935 Title: Suspend not working on Ubuntu 16.04 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Suspend stopped working after upgrade from 15.10 to 16.04. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 549741] Re: [Dell Latitude 131L] keyboard not recognized properly; logs fill up with messages
hi Chris, Yup, it does still happen. I just checked and it's a constant 4 messages per second filling up the logs. I can do the workaround as described above in #72 which may or may not make it go away for a while. Right now I'm not in a position to go testing alternative kernels. This laptop is very much my working hack so I need it to get myself into next month and the next etc. Currently running Precise 12.04 amd64, updated daily (including proposed and backports repositories). Linux laptop-131L 3.2.0-55-generic #85-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 2 12:29:27 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux cheers Tom -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549741 Title: [Dell Latitude 131L] keyboard not recognized properly; logs fill up with messages Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: hi Running Ubuntu Lucid amd64 on a Dell Latitude 131L (AMD chips), updated twice a day at the moment. Linux seems not to recognize the keyboard in my laptop well. Starting early in the boot process (well before X kicks in) I see error messages on the screen. The same messages then swamp the logs. [19670.835707] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e00d keycode' to make it known. If there is anything I should do to provide more information, please let me know. cheers Tom --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21.
