[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1565087] Re: Ubuntu no longer can read SD Cards (external reader)

2016-06-12 Thread Tommy_CZ
Hi, thanks for the cooperation.
I updated BIOS and it partially helped.

1)$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
V22.4
12/21/2015

2) It seems it partially helped, but it is probably because of update in
Ubuntu because it was better even before BIOS upgrade. Now, after I
plug it into USB, Ubuntu detects it, but after few seconds, it simply
dies and it is same as before.

It is a progress, but a little-one.

in USB3, it dies much more quickly (3 seconds), in USB2 after about
10secs.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1606384] Re: Ubuntu does not boot with systemd

2016-07-27 Thread Tommy_CZ
Hi, thanks for cooperation.
Answers: It happened after regular upgrade and reboot. All Xenial's kernels
before latest were OK.

So it is probably regression.

I reinstalled Ubuntu (by using alternate Lubuntu iso, I use RAID and Ubuntu iso
cannot deal with it.)
and everything was OK, until upgrade to latest kernel - everything (graphics)
is distorted (systemd) or does not boot at all (upstart). Bug report: bug
#1607006

And again, boot to kernel before latest is a workaround.

I will try upstream kernel and complete this report.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1632902] Re: kernel panic when booting 4.4.0-42 and 4.4.0-38, but not 4.4.0-36

2016-10-17 Thread Tommy_CZ
"kernel panic when booting 4.4.0-42 and 4.4.0-38, but not 4.4.0-36"
I thought the same, but I realised it is somehow "random". Only 1 of 8 attempt
to boot is succesfull, no matter what kernel (despite what I thought).

It all happened after update of packages few days ago.
Before that all kernels worked without problem.

Just test it, you'll see I am right.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1633391] Re: Ubuntu doesn't boot anymore {REGRESSION}

2016-10-17 Thread Tommy_CZ
The situation is crazy.
I have -43, -42, -38 and -36 kernels.

The bug is not in "quiet splash" option.

All of them can boot only 1 of 8 times, no matter which one, no matter
whether "quiet splash" is present or not.

It is probably not bug in kernel.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1633391] Re: Ubuntu doesn't boot anymore {REGRESSION}

2016-11-20 Thread Tommy_CZ
Latest kernel (4.8.2 I think) can boot IF I go to grub settings (to choose that
kernel).
Without it even that kernel ends in that panic error.

Bug description:
Hi, my ubuntu freezes when I try to connect it to a wireless network, I tried
nm-applet in GNOME, knetwork manager and also plasma-widget-networkmanagement
in KDE and nothing helped. Reboot doesn't help. The only solution is to reboot
to windows, then back to Ubuntu and it works, but just to next reboot. Next
reboot the problem occurs again.
I have possibility to enable closed-source driver for Broadcomm wireless -
but enabling it really doesn't help.
What to do with it? It is nearly impossible to use Ubuntu on my Acer Aspire
One 722 because these crashes :/

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1197451] Re: Ubuntu fails to properly boot on Macbook Air 2013 6, 1 & 6, 2

2013-08-15 Thread Tommy_CZ
Ok here is my experience with Ubuntu and Macbook Air 6,2.:

Booting live USB:
EFI: 12.04.2 -> without problems
EFI: 13.04 -> without problems
amd64+mac: 12.04.2 -> cannot boot nor recognise Ubuntu USB installer
amd64+mac: 13.04 -> cannot boot nor recognise -||-

with special patch mac_setup.sh from "howto install ubuntu on macbookAir
4,2" (I can provide details) -> booting without using efi is OK with
12.04.2 and 13.04, no difference if "+mac" version or not. (but keep in
mind this bypass and do not use EFI standard way)

Installation from live USB:
12.04.2 -> impossible (freezes when installing grub -> reboot is needed ->
installation is not sucsessfull)
13.04 -> installation works

Booting installed Ubuntu:
12.04.2 -> impossible, because bug in installer (ubiquity?)
13.04 - without acpi=off option in grub -> freeze when booting as aforesaid
13.04 - with acpi=off option -> freeze when booting as aforesaid
13.04 - with nosmp option -> freeze while booting with initramfs shell (saying
something about it could not find SSD with UUID)
13.04 - with nosmp option + with change of root=/dev/sdaX -> first boot usualy
is without problems

-> next boots hangs with SAME settings (only
updated but SAME kernel) at "error: sparse file not allowed" (not serious nor
related bug) or "Loading initial ramdisk" screen (depending on whether you
installed efi or no-efi way).

Usage of vanilla - installed Ubuntu:
13.04 - with nosmp option + with change of root=/dev/sdaX -> strange color
gamut (16bit depth?) + non working wireless.
-> suspend-to-RAM works without problems.

Wireless ( bcm4360 / 43a0 ):
13.04 - with nosmp option + with change of root=/dev/sdaX -> installation of
bcmwl-kernel-source from proposed to saucy results in: A) wireless works and
can see SSID of networks (2,4GHz + 5 GHz)
B) cannot keep connection for more than 3 or 4 seconds when is connected to
wireless networks with wpa-psk or wpa 2.
C) wireless networks without security are OK.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1402386] [NEW] New kernel causes black screen after login

2014-12-14 Thread Tommy_CZ
Public bug reported:

New kernel causes black screen after login, I cannot use it nor switch to ttyX.
It came as regular upgrade during installation of Ubuntu.
Downgrade to kernel 3.13.0-32-generic is a workaround.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1402386] Re: New kernel causes black screen after login

2014-12-14 Thread Tommy_CZ
It seems upgraded kernel has serious issues with AMD GPUs, probably same
problem is here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/560350/boot-hangs-after-
upgrade-to-kernel-3-13-0-43

Athlon 5150 with radeon R3 (HD8400). Black screen, system freeze during
boot, started after upgrade of Ubuntu (this upgrade is included into
installation of Ubuntu(!!!) )

The worse is, the kernel 3.16.0-28 is also plagued by this bug.

This bug cripples the upgrade-enabled installation of Ubuntu on AMD CPUs
with GPUs ! Critical!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1401943] Re: [Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE] Kernel upgrade to 3.16.0-28 causes boot hang on my system

2014-12-14 Thread Tommy_CZ
Hi, same situation with kernel 3.13.0-43 in Ubuntu 14.04.1, black screen,
cannot switch to tty - version before upgrade works OK.
3.16.0-28 - the bug is still here.
The new version of kernel 3.13.0-43 is being installed automatically during
installation of Ubuntu 14.04 and makes the Ubuntu unusable.

Title:
[Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE] Kernel upgrade to 3.16.0-28 causes boot hang on
  my system

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Under Ubuntu 14.10, I installed the latest kernel 3.16.0-28 and after
reboot my system won't boot - result is blank screen. No console from
  ctrl+alt+fX.

  Re-installed from 14.10 install media, choosing do-not-install-
updates, and found that strangely this still resulted in 3.16.0-28
being installed - and thus same boot hang.

System boots fine with earlier kernel version (3.16.0-23).

I tried the 'ubuntu-bug linux' console command to report a bug with
the kernel - however, this gathers information about the running
(working) kernel 3.16.0-23 rather than the broken 3.16.0-28.

Will attach screenshot of output of text error during boot.

Title:
kernel 3.16.0-28-generic breaks Radeon HD 6310

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When applying the updates on my Ubuntu Utopic installation I received the new
3.16.0-28 kernel.
The computer had no problems with the Utopic kernels before ( up to
3.16.0-26), but now it suddenly won't give any output (via HDMI) when booting.
I don't get X, I don't get a splah and I can't switch with ctrl+alt+fX to one
of the terminals.

When booting with the older kernels or the latest (3.18.0) kernel from
  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ no problem appears. I
also reinstalled the 3.16.0-28 kernel image and reran update-
initramfs, but the problem stays. So something explicitly in this
  kernel is creating this issue.

Below I paste the relevant messages i found in the dmesg/syslog:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1402386] Re: New kernel causes black screen after login

2014-12-14 Thread Tommy_CZ
Yes, but this is not a resolution, it is just a workaround, mentioned in
askubuntu.
Do not forget for many people fglrx is not an option because of lack of proper
vdpau support, etc.
There is something really bad in latest Ubuntu kernels.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1390213] [NEW] Slow wireless when using RT3572

2014-11-06 Thread Tommy_CZ
Public bug reported:

Hi, I use Tenda w522u dual band wireless adapter (RT3572) and although
it CAN see networks and CAN connect to them, the bandwith is really
terrible. The internet is very slow although with another wireless
adapter it is much better (600Kbits/sec versus 15Mbit/sec aproximately)
It seems the driver is somehow bad.

I did not install the proprietary version of driver (I do not want to
compile every time I upgrade kernel)

2018-11-22 Thread Tommy_CZ
I have same problem in Lenovo laptop with intel CPU, SSD.
With 16.04 it worked. In 18.04 it worked few days ago, now it doesn't work and
using other kernel versions doesn't help, so I suspect it is not fault of newer
kernel.

  ===SRU Justification===
  [Impact]
Systems with acpi-lpss can't do S3/S4 on Bionic.

  [Test]
Users confirmed these patches work for them.

  [Fix]
Commit a192aa923b66a (ACPI / LPSS: Consolidate runtime PM and system
sleep handling) applies quirks for both runtime and system suspend.
This causes problems for some systems, so avoid using quirks on S3 and
  S4.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. These patches are in upstream stable, and it brings back driver's
  old behavior.

  ===Original Bug Report===
I have installed Kubuntu 18.04 on 3 different machines (my friend's and my
own) with no suspend problems but my HP Pavilion 11 x360 does not suspend.

It suspends fine with Ubuntu 17.10, Kubuntu 17.10, Devuan Jesse,
Devuan ASCII and Windows 10 but fails with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu
  18.04.

I have also tried suspend using a live USB of 18.04 on this machine
and it fails in the same way, so does not appear to be caused by any
additional programs that I had installed.

By installing an older kernel (4.14) on Kubuntu 18.04 the suspend
  function works as expected.

Running Kubuntu 18.04 with kernels 4.15, 4.16, 4.17 results in the
suspend failure that freezes the machine and requires a hard reset.

  Correct behaviour is -

Screen goes blank, fan goes off, power LED flashes to show machine is
in suspend. Pressing power button triggers 'resume' function.

  What happens -

Screen goes blank, fan stays on, power LED stays on. Machine stays in
this state and does not respond to any keyboard interaction, mouse
  movement or power button presses.

Ctrl + Alt + f1 (or f2, f3, f4 etc) does not get any response.

The only way to use the machine is to shut down by holding down the
  power button.

Checking the logs suggests that the machine believes it is in suspend
mode sleep [deep] when it isn't.

Having to hard reset to get any response means that the kernel logs
say no more than sleep [deep]

pm-suspend also results in the same problems with kernels 4.15 and
4.16, but works fine with 4.14.

It is curious that a machine that suspends fine on an earlier 4.14
kernel no longer works with 4.15 and above, whilst 3 other machines
(including one with pretty similar hardware) do not exhibit this
  problem.

There are only a handful of questions about it on the forums but at
least 3 other people have the same problem:

  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029405/ubuntu-18-04-crashes-on-
  resuming-from-suspend

  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1041369/after-upgrading-
  from-17-10-ubuntu-18-04-wont-sleep-suspend

I am attempting to round up anyone else with the same issue and point
  them to this bug report.

My laptop is HP Pavilion x360 11-n013na
  Matalaks is Acer Aspire ES1-511
  collisionTwo has XPS 9560

Bug description:
(This can also be an nvidia related problem)

Mouse pointer behaves as if it has an invisible square attached to it.
This square covers some area next to the pointer, but it is not always
clear exactly where (a link to a screenshot is shown below, please
note the white square with some text from the previous webpage
  displayed in that window).

This makes selecting text difficult, as one never knows where exactly
the selection ends. Also, scrolling in some windows becomes
problematic, as the pointer shadows a part of the scrollbar. When a
text is being typed, one needs to make sure that the pointer is parked
sufficiently far from the text (so, to make a long story short, this
  is very annoying).
