[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1695400] Re: Keyboard and mouse freeze up in Ubuntu 16.04 with 4.4.0-7 kernel

2017-06-05 Thread William T. Lowther
Issues started after upgrading to 16.04. The previous kernel that was in use
was 3.13.0-86, which had no operating issues.
I have installed 4.12.0-0412004rc4-generic which is now in use. I cannot
access the internet with cable, but can with wireless. The keyboard and mouse
have not locked up as they did with 4.4.0-78, altho they do not operate
smoothly. In terminal (and wireless), sudo apt-get update yields "Temporary
failure resolving...". Pinging ubuntu.com and 8.8.8.8 results in "unknown
host" and destination host unreachable", respectively.

** Description changed:

Keyboard is sporadically responsive before freezing. Mouse is twitchy before
freezing.
Ubuntu 16.04 with 3.13.0-86 has no issues at all.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1695397] Re: Cannot apt-get update by internet cable with Ubuntu 16.04 with 4.4.o-78 kernel

2017-06-05 Thread William T. Lowther
There are 2 kernels in the grub: 4.4.0-78, and 3.13.0-86. I have booted
into both of these repeatedly. The latter kernel works without any
issues. The former always has the issues as described above and in bug
report # 1695400.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1549029] Re: No internet connection with 4.2.0-30

2016-03-01 Thread William T. Lowther
No change. I booted v4.5 twice and it completed the process to my normal
desktop configuration, but no internet connection.
I went back to 4.2.0-27-generic and it booted up w/ the network connected.

Instead of the i386 files, I downloaded the amd64 files for the ckt1 thru 3
kernels.
When each booted to desktop, there was no connection to the internet.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1549029] Re: No internet connection with 4.2.0-30

2016-02-25 Thread William T. Lowther
Got some guidance from here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds.
Downloaded these 3 files:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.8-ckt1-wily/linux-headers-4.2.8-040208ckt1-generic_4.2.8-040208ckt1.201601081730_i386.deb

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.8-ckt1-wily/linux-headers-4.2.8-040208ckt1_4.2.8-040208ckt1.201601081730_all.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2.8-ckt1-wily/linux-image-4.2.8-040208ckt1-generic_4.2.8-040208ckt1.201601081730_i386.deb
Then did sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Rebooted, selected "Advanced" when grub appeared, selected ckt1 generic
option for boot.
"Quiet Splash" was removed earlier from the BIOS.
Bootup ended at ~2.5 sec showing "---[end Kernel panic - not syncing: No
working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux
Documentation/init.txt for guidance".
I let it sit for ~50 mins but no progress.
Rebooted using the "recovery mode" and "upstart" and got the same results.
Then downloaded the appropriate files for ckt2, but got the same results.
Didn't try ckt3.
Any suggestions on the init= option thingy?
Going to bed.
TIA,
Bill

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1549029] Re: No internet connection with 4.2.0-30

2016-02-23 Thread William T. Lowther
I have been asked by automated email to run "apport-collect 1549029". I cannot
connect to my Launchpad acct. with the 4.2.0-30-generic upgrade installed. I
can do so with 4.2.0-27-generic installed. Do you want me to run
"apport-collect 1549029" with the later installed?
Bill
