No DRM so no acceleration with Openchrome. This will make me and

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1680276] Re: DRM for Via GPUs is missing

2017-04-07 Thread jhansonxi
@sforshee: Is this something new to Zesty or was it done in previous
releases? It's been years since I've tried a Via Chrome system so it's
new to me at least.

Is there a list of DRM drivers or other modules affected by this policy
somewhere? IIRC most FB video drivers are blacklisted due to
instability but are there others?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1658270] Re: Backport Dirty COW patch to prevent wineserver freeze

2017-01-24 Thread jhansonxi
3.13.0-107 seems to be working. Was able to get to the login screen of
Altium 16 on Trusty using Wine-staging 2.0 RC6. With 3.13.0-101 it
freezes.

Title:
Backport Dirty COW patch to prevent wineserver freeze

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
A few kernels updates ago (after kernel 3.13.0-98) on 14.04 (Trusty) a
backported fix for Dirty COW from kernel 4.8.3 resulted in some Delphi
apps freezing wineserver and leaving it unkillable:

  https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41637

I haven't tested for the bug on 16.04 Xenial (kernel 4.4.0-59) but it
is probably affected. A patch is available:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1310823] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1525] Ubuntu freezes when lid closed

2014-05-20 Thread jhansonxi
I'm encountering the same problems with my Dell Inspiron 1525 and
Xubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) x86_64. Most any display change (blanking,
add/removing external monitor) results in a non-fatal error:

Suspend/hibernate fails also. Closing the lid results in a freeze.

The encoder's hw state doesn't match sw tracking seems to be the problem. A
fix for the same error was made last year:
http://linux-kernel.2935.n7.nabble.com/Re-Re-drm-i915-new-warning-regression-in-3-7-10-and-3-8-3-td631548.html
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=962386

The current problem may be another regression. Others encountered a similar
problem with 3.13:

Title:
[Dell Inspiron 1525] Ubuntu freezes when lid closed

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi. I'm using Dell Inspiron 1525 for several years and it was used
with Ubuntu since 10.04 or so.

After upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04 my PC started to freeze completely
(no response from anything, requires hard reboot) if I'm closing the
lid or display turning off due to inactivity timeout. I also had this
problem after wake from suspend, but recently got kernel update and
looks like it was fixed (no freezes after wake up). I tried fresh
install of 14.04 that I'm using right now, but it doesn't help.
