[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1958309] [NEW] ax88179_178a: Link state changes cause USB hiccups

2022-01-18 Thread rojer
Public bug reported:

Bus 003 Device 061: ID 0b95:1790 ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit
Ethernet

Link changes on this device cause approx. 5 second hiccups on the USB
bus - keyboard and mouse become unresponsive.

Here's my USB device tree:

[rojer@nbd ~]$ lsusb -t

Ethernet adapter and keyboard marked by "<===", they only share root hub.

To reproduce - replug the the cable or force link renegotiation with
"sudo ethtool -s enxa0cec8fb9be3 autoneg on", observe hiccup wiht KB and
mouse unresponsive.

AX driver is to blame because this does not happen with other USB-eth
adapters, e.g. r8152, even when plugged into the same hub as ax88179:

|__ Port 1: Dev 61, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class,
Driver=ax88179_178a, 480M
|__ Port 2: Dev 62, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/2p, 480M
|__ Port 1: Dev 63, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class,
Driver=r8152, 480M

Link changes on r8152 do not cause hiccups.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1941798] Re: Focal update: v5.4.140 upstream stable release

2021-10-22 Thread rojer
this update caused a regression in ch341 driver:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1947780

already fixed upstream, just needs to apply the upstream patch (which is
a revert of the original change).

  Kernel module ch341 bug

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Kernel module ch341 in Ubuntu kernels 5.4.0-88-generic and 5.4.0-89-generic
cannot program any esp8266 modules like Wemos D1 mini which contain ch340 chip
uart controller. In kernel 5.4.0-86-generic everything is working good.
Communication over serial connection is working in both cases only
programming using esptool is broken, kernel module do not react properly to
response fom ch340 chip I suppose

Title:
brightness control not work with OLED panel

Bug description:

Linux can not control the brightness on the OLED panel in the traditional way
[1].
Although there's a workaround from the community [2] that to execute script
while brightness hotkey event is triggered. But if we want to upstream it, it's
still a problem to recognize the OLED panel so that the system knows when to go
workaround.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1319885] Re: Precise update to v3.2.58 and v3.2.59 stable release

2014-06-29 Thread rojer
this patch:

drm/vmwgfx: correct fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length
(https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/2/1/41)

introduces a regression in vmware video drivers widely reported here:
https://communities.vmware.com/message/2388776

i also reported it here against xserver-xorg-video-vmware here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
vmware/+bug/1328898

in the mean time, it would be nice to get a rollback.

Title:
Precise update to v3.2.58 and v3.2.59 stable release

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in “linux” source package in Precise:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  SRU Justification

  Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from Linus' tree or in a minimally
backported form of that patch. The v3.2.58 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
     kernel as well.

     git://git.kernel.org/
