[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1220577] Re: [HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook] wireless hotkey function loss on 12.04.3 but works on 12.04.2
I started a kernel bisect between v3.6final and v3.7-rc1. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 13 test kernels. I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit: 24d7b40a60cf19008334bcbcbd98da374d4d9c64 The test kernel can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1220577 Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not. I will build the next test kernel based on your test results. Thanks in advance -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1220577 Title: [HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook] wireless hotkey function loss on 12.04.3 but works on 12.04.2 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: CID 201209-11789 Hardware: HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook image: 12.04.3 Step to reproduce the bug: 1. boot into the system 2. connect to wireless AP (if any) via the indicator on Desktop (upper-right hand side) 3. if connected, make sure we could surf on internet 4. press the wireless hotkey, in this case, it is F12 Expected result: 1. the wireless will lose connection 2. no AP on the scanning list of the wireless desktop indicator 3. wireless LED will change color (from white to orange) Actual result: nothing happened More information may help: 1. So just to confirm, v3.6 final does not have the bug, but v3.7-rc1 does? If that is the case, we can bisect between those two versions. Were you able to test any of the kernels requested in comment #32? Also, it would be good to know if this bug still exits in the latest mainline kernel. It can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14-rc5-trusty/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1220577 Title: [HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook] wireless hotkey function loss on 12.04.3 but works on 12.04.2 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: CID 201209-11789 Hardware: HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook image: 12.04.3 Step to reproduce the bug: 1. boot into the system 2. connect to wireless AP (if any) via the indicator on Desktop (upper-right hand side) 3. if connected, make sure we could surf on internet 4. press the wireless hotkey, in this case, it is F12 Expected result: 1. the wireless will lose connection 2. no AP on the scanning list of the wireless desktop indicator 3. wireless LED will change color (from white to orange) Actual result: nothing happened More information may help: 1. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1220577] Re: [HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook] wireless hotkey function loss on 12.04.3 but works on 12.04.2
I'd like to perform a bisect to figure out what commit caused this regression. We need to identify the earliest kernel where the issue started happening as well as the latest kernel that did not have this issue. Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the first kernel version that exhibits this bug: v3.5 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5-quantal/ v3.6 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6-quantal/ v3.7 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.7-raring/ v3.8-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8-rc1-raring/ You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the kernel that first has this bug. One thing to note, some of these kernels require that you install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages, if both exist. Thanks in advance! ** Tags removed: needs-bisect ** Tags added: performing-bisect -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1220577 Title: [HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook] wireless hotkey function loss on 12.04.3 but works on 12.04.2 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: CID 201209-11789 Hardware: HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook image: 12.04.3 Step to reproduce the bug: 1. boot into the system 2. connect to wireless AP (if any) via the indicator on Desktop (upper-right hand side) 3. if connected, make sure we could surf on internet 4. press the wireless hotkey, in this case, it is F12 Expected result: 1. the wireless will lose connection 2. no AP on the scanning list of the wireless desktop indicator 3. wireless LED will change color (from white to orange) Actual result: nothing happened More information may help: 1. It would also be good to know if this has already been fixed in the latest upstream kernel. Can you test the v3.11 final kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.11-saucy/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1220577 Title: [HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook] wireless hotkey function loss on 12.04.3 but works on 12.04.2 Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: CID 201209-11789 Hardware: HP Pavilion 15 Sleekbook image: 12.04.3 Step to reproduce the bug: 1. boot into the system 2. connect to wireless AP (if any) via the indicator on Desktop (upper-right hand side) 3. if connected, make sure we could surf on internet 4. press the wireless hotkey, in this case, it is F12 Expected result: 1. the wireless will lose connection 2. no AP on the scanning list of the wireless desktop indicator 3. wireless LED will change color (from white to orange) Actual result: nothing happened More information may help: 1.
