Title:
[Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312] At login, have to click on icon to
  activate keyboard

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10. This morning, I couldn't type my
password in at the login prompt. It was as if the keyboard was not
being recognized. I verified that there was a prompt in the password
box, so it's not an input focus issue.

What's interesting is that if I hit Capslock, a capslock warning icon
appears in the password box, so obviously the keyboard is functioning,
but just not allowing me to type my password in.

[Workaround] However, if I mouse click on the on-screen keyboard icon
at the top of the screen (the icon's shaped like a little man), and
then click back on the password box, keyboard input is recognized and
I can finally type my password in.

Once logged in, the keyboard works fine.

I think this is not a keyboard driver issue, but a login screen issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1263504] Re: [Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312] At login, have to click on icon to activate keyboard

2013-12-27 Thread JamesE
Yes, this bug definitely occurs at 14.04. I'm not sure if it did NOT
occur under 13.10, because I upgraded to 14.04 immediately after
installing 13.10, and didn't log back into Ubuntu in between.

I have since found this issue reported here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1261818

It appears to be an "input focus" issue with the password box whereby
any keypresses with the exception of Capslock are not reflected in the
password box. My current workaround is: If you right hand click on the
password box, then left hand click back into it, input focus is restored
and you can now enter your password.

Note that I also experience the bug inconsistently like user thotz does:
sometimes you can type your password in as normal, other times you have
to use the workaround with the mouse.

Also note that, once logged in, the keyboard works 100% OK. User thotz
suggests it may be a bug with the lightdm for Ubuntu, I assume the
utility used for the login screen.

2013-12-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
JamesE, thank you for your comments. For now, I'm going to this over to
lightdm (Ubuntu), please reassign if not the correct. However, I would
not mark this a duplicate of another report, or vice versa unless noted
otherwise by a developer.

As well, you may want to try providing any helpful information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LightDM#Debugging_LightDM .
