[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1426259] Re: Dell XPS13 regularly loses connection/becomes unusable on Intel 7260
gianluca, as reports are scoped to both the WiFi chipset used, and the router one has a problem with, let us close this report. If you are having a problem with a specific chipset+router combination (ex. EUDORAM), it is best if you filed a new report while connected to it, or immediately after having attempted to connect with http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . As well, please provide the missing information from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LinuxWireless . [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1426259] Re: Dell XPS13 regularly loses connection/becomes unusable on Intel 7260
Hello Christopher, thanks for the mail. It took me one week to reply since I wanted to make some tests with different wifi. I upgraded the BIOS: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date A06 11/07/2014 Then, due to a business travel I tested the laptop in several situations. The outcome is a little bit surprising for me in the sense that there is a strong improvement but the problem is not totally solved yet while I expected a stationary situation or the complete solution of it. It now connects very nicely to my home wifi and to my smart-phone hot spot (it didn't before). It connected to the wifi of a couple of airports but I experiences problems with EUDORAM (the academic network). So, let me say 8 out of 10 worked fine. Thanks for your help, I'm a little bit unsure on how to proceed, g. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1426259 Title: Dell XPS13 regularly loses connection/becomes unusable on Intel 7260 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: i'm affected by the bug described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1315221 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-46.75-generic 3.13.11-ckt15 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-46-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Feb 27 09:13:07 2015 DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-precise-amd64-20130203-1 IfupdownConfig: auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-31 (118 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 Precise - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20130203-13:50 IpRoute: default via 192.168.42.129 dev usb0 proto static 10.0.3.0/24 dev lxcbr0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.3.1 192.168.42.0/24 dev usb0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.42.20 metric 1 192.168.122.0/24 dev virbr0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.122.1 NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=true WimaxEnabled=true SourcePackage: network-manager UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-11-06 (112 days ago) mtime.conffile..etc.NetworkManager.NetworkManager.conf: 2015-01-17T17:14:49.420493 nmcli-dev: DEVICE TYPE STATE DBUS-PATH usb0 802-3-ethernetconnected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/1 wlan0 802-11-wireless disconnected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/0 nmcli-nm: RUNNING VERSIONSTATE NET-ENABLED WIFI-HARDWARE WIFI WWAN-HARDWARE WWAN running 0.9.8.8connected enabled enabled enabledenabled disabled --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: gianluca 2519 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: gianluca 2519 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-precise-amd64-20130203-1 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=d66adccc-da2d-4287-8a51-d6631a5267fa InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-31 (134 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 Precise - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20130203-13:50 MachineType: Dell Inc. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1426259] Re: Dell XPS13 regularly loses connection/becomes unusable on Intel 7260
gianluca, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/xps-13-9333/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A06). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a06 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1426259 Title: Dell XPS13 regularly loses connection/becomes unusable on Intel 7260 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: i'm affected by the bug described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1315221 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-46.75-generic 3.13.11-ckt15 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-46-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Feb 27 09:13:07 2015 DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-precise-amd64-20130203-1 IfupdownConfig: auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-31 (118 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 Precise - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20130203-13:50 IpRoute: default via 192.168.42.129 dev usb0 proto static 10.0.3.0/24 dev lxcbr0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.3.1 192.168.42.0/24 dev usb0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.42.20 metric 1 192.168.122.0/24 dev virbr0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.122.1 NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=true WimaxEnabled=true SourcePackage: network-manager UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-11-06 (112 days ago) mtime.conffile..etc.NetworkManager.NetworkManager.conf: 2015-01-17T17:14:49.420493 nmcli-dev: DEVICE TYPE STATE DBUS-PATH usb0 802-3-ethernetconnected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/1 wlan0 802-11-wireless disconnected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/0 nmcli-nm: RUNNING VERSIONSTATE NET-ENABLED WIFI-HARDWARE WIFI WWAN-HARDWARE WWAN running 0.9.8.8connected enabled enabled enabledenabled disabled --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: gianluca 2519 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: gianluca 2519 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-precise-amd64-20130203-1 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=d66adccc-da2d-4287-8a51-d6631a5267fa InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-31 (134 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 Precise - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20130203-13:50 MachineType: Dell Inc.
