 Good luck.

This workaround did not help in my situation. When Ubuntu came up (both
the login screen and the desktop) it was already telling me my network
connection was down.

Maybe it's a question of timing. It's hard enough to get grub to come
up. I have to carefully press ESC repeatedly - but not too fast - or I
don't see grub. Once I'm in grub it's easy enough to just boot the -46
kernel.

But thanks, perhaps this will provide a clue to the fixers. By the way,
what hardware are you finding this on?

You don't mention if WiFi was also failing for you. It is for me. Does
your workaround solve that as well?

 Hi,
I have found a workaround for this bug:
Start the machine from scratch with all the USB devices plugged in.
Wait for the Grub menu to show on the screen.
Using the keyboard select Ubuntu as the operating system to load.
Immediately after selecting the Ubuntu OS, disconnect the USB mouse (be
it direct USB plug-in or remote).
When the Ubuntu login screen comes up it will be possible to use the
keyboard to enter the user-name and the password.
Once the Ubuntu environment is established, reconnect the USB mouse.,
 and use it
 normally.
Problem solved, although a bit annoying.
 Hope this helps.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1440174] Re: Keyboard and Mouse don't work with latest Kernel

2015-04-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Joseph, just to advise, this is not Fix Committed as defined in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status .

Despite this, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 3.13 to 4.0-rc7 in order to identify the last bad commit,
followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been
identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into
your release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1440174] Re: Keyboard and Mouse don't work with latest Kernel

2015-04-05 Thread sTiVo
I'll report the same or similar problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad P540P
using 14.04. New kernel 3.13.0-48 broke my USB mouse and my Wifi
Connectivity. Keyboard still worked though, but I am using an internal
laptop keyboard rather than USB one. Reverting to 3.13.0-46 solved
these problems.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1440174] Re: Keyboard and Mouse don't work with latest Kernel

2015-04-04 Thread descending3rds
I have Ubuntu installed on my 17'' core-duo intel imac, with an encrypted root
partition.
Version 12.04 with 13.5.0-17-generic worked ok, but I updated to the LTS
version 14.04.
The system now freezes before asking for my encryption password when booting (I
am using EFI with grub2)
with my old kernel (13.5.0-17-generic) and with no args on the kernel command
line. If I put nomodeset the boot
progresses to the encryption password and I can successfully login, however the
video is completely scrambled (I literally cannot
make out anything). Having tried many ways to fix the video, I tried the latest
kernel (3.13.0-48-generic). In this case
the boot gets to the password, but the keyboard/mouse does not respond. Again I
tried many fixes, unsuccesfully. I installed the extras
so as to have usbhid, mac_hid etc, and found that the behaviour now reverted
precisely to that outlined above for 13.5.0-17-generic;
that is scrambled graphics but successful login (with nomodeset), and ok
graphics but no keyboard (without nomodeset).
I tried manually adding only the hid modules to my initrd.img-3.13.0-48-generic
built prior to install of extra, but found graphics again
ok but still no keyboard !
