[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1489298] Re: IBM/Lenovo W520 sometimes crashes while resuming after suspend
osmeest, please update your BIOS to the latest via http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w -series-laptops/thinkpad-w520 . If this is reproducible afterwards, please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1489298] Re: IBM/Lenovo W520 sometimes crashes while resuming after suspend
Installed kernel 4.2-unstable from the PPA. This caused trouble during the installation with vbox drivers and nvidia. The first is easily resolved by upgrading vbox to 5.0 (was 4.3). Is there an easy way out for the nvidia driver (in the form of a .deb to be installed) ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489298 Title: IBM/Lenovo W520 sometimes crashes while resuming after suspend Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: It's not 100% reproducible but it happens often enough to get annoying: I close the lid before going home, when I come back the next day, open the lid and get an endless repetition of "mei_me :00:16.0: no destination client found". Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1489298] Re: IBM/Lenovo W520 sometimes crashes while resuming after suspend
It's hard to say when the problem has started to happen since it is not very reproducible. It happened multiple times, that's sure. But I have no idea how to trigger it. I'll try the 4.2 unstable now (hopefully, my 14.04.3 system accepts it). Don't expect a "fixed upstream" confirmation before at least a month... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1489298] Re: IBM/Lenovo W520 sometimes crashes while resuming after suspend
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.2 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
