[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589109] Re: I have to unplug the cable to turn xubuntu 16.04 off
Update after shutting down after changes in the snapshot above were executed: On clicking shut down I still get an absolutely blank screen. On startup, bios showed only 2 out of 4 GiB installed RAM This time the laptop needed "only" 2 mins 5 seconds to automatically shut down, I didn't have to unplug the power cable. This is not related to the kernel 4.7.0-040700rc2-generic being in use, because every time I use the laptop for less than 20 minutes it has this "normal" behaviour. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589109 Title: I have to unplug the cable to turn xubuntu 16.04 off Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: xubuntu 16.04 on a clevo m7xsun: the regular way of turning my computer down means, always, having to unplug the cable: I click on turn off and sometimes the screen freezes on the background and stays like that until I unplug the cable. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589109] Re: I have to unplug the cable to turn xubuntu 16.04 off
Latest kernel 4.7.0-040700rc2-generic was tested and the bug still happens. I couldn't record anything with my video camera and you already know how an absolutely blank screen looks like. I couldn't see any logs. I clicked on shutdown, a blank screen appeared, it stayed like that for 6 minutes, I unplugged the power cable. BIOS is now is back to recognizing just 2 of my 4 GiB RAM, which I believe means this many unorthodox power offs is starting to affect the mobo... I'm going to leave this kernel 4.7.0-040700rc2-generic installed to see if sometimes 4 GiB RAM are recognized. If this becomes too burdensome for me I'll revert to the latest stable kernel. Hope this helps... I just shut the laptop down, 5 minutes after having started it: closing took it one minute (blank screen) and when I started it, Bios listed 4 GiB RAM. This may be related to the following: if I use my laptop for no more than 20 minutes and without network manager activated, it shuts without problems. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589109] Re: I have to unplug the cable to turn xubuntu 16.04 off
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.7-rc1 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance. Sometimes I get a blank screen and stays like that until I unplug the cable. Sometimes I get to see what the computer does (what programs are being shut down) and freezes on a certain process and stays like that until I unplug the cable... I have been doing it like this since 12.04, but now I'm afraid it's affecting the hdd.
