I tried to install Ubuntu v. 16.04.1 on my HP Envy 15-ah150sa. Installation passes without errors, but during the first boot from hard drive, right after the GRUB, any of the following happens (absolutely randomly): 1. Screen starts to blink constantly, boot doesn't proceeds 2. Screen remains blank (the same background color as grub have) and capslock starts to turning on and off 3. I tried to install Ubuntu v. 16.04.1 on my HP Envy 15-ah150sa. It successfully booted from the flash drive with default params (however, if I tried to edit command line params, for example, to disable acpi or add nomodeset flag, it fails to boot regardless if I made some changes in the command or not). Screen remains blank and no more requests to HDD being performing In any of these three cases, laptop doesn't responds to ctrl-alt-del I tried to: 0. Test memory, HDD and ISO image, install different versions of Ubuntu from different USB Flash drives. 1. Update BIOS (now it is of latest version (F.14)) - only after that update Ubuntu booted from USB Flash drive. 2. Disable/enable secure boot 3. Add nomodeset 4. Add acpi=off 5. Boot in different modes Booting in recovery mode results to a lot of "General Protection Fault" errors. Booting in upstart mode once was successfull Not sure if this info will help, but I also tried to install latest Debian. It boots, but CPU usage appears to be constantly high. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1615361] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop
And another strange thing. I tried to install latest Ubuntu (built September, 2), and successfully boot into it. However, strange things were happening during the boot: screen just switched off 15-20 seconds. But finally i was able to log in to the system. The only thing I did - connected to WiFi, then tried to reboot laptop and it freezed during shutdown. Unfortunatelly, consequential reboots resulted to an error (see attachment). P.S. I used Windows between first successfull and next failed Ubuntu's boots. ** Attachment added: "Kernel null pointer dereference error" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1615361/+attachment/4733131/+files/IMAG1929.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615361 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop right after the installation. Booting in upstart mode once was successfull Not sure if this info will help, but I also tried to install latest Debian. It boots, but CPU usage appears to be constantly high. Same issue wasn't found when ran Ubuntu from USB. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1615361] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop
If any other diagnostical actions I may perform to better describe the problem - just let me know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615361 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop right after the installation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1615361] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop
As I told, it is impossible to boot system (booted only in upstart mode which worked just for a few minutes and freezed then). But I managed to recover some logs from / drive. Not sure what you may need, so the whole /var/log is in the attachment. ** Attachment added: "log dir contents" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1615361/+attachment/4726504/+files/log.zip ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615361 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop right after the installation.
