  kernel crash during login

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  System works fine with kernel version 4.8.0-37; since 4.8.0-38 I
  experience a kernel crash when trying to login; login screen just
  freezes; switching to a console (tty3) instead and trying to login
  right after entering the pwd I can see that a kernel crash happend and
  then graphic starts to flicker. Tested for versions kernel > 4.8.0-37
  (latest 4.8.0-41).
