I don't think this is a kernel problem, it looks like modprobe is trying to load a module named "off" which does not exist. I'm wondering if you have some kind of strange aliases defined in /etc/modprobe.d, something like 'alias nouveau off'. The issue happened after upgrading from Ubuntu 7.10 to development version Bioninc Beaver. On Ubuntu 7.10 the module works as expected with distribution default kernel Linux 4.13. Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
