Arful is reaching EOL so please try Bionic. If the issue persists then
we need to fix it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1770108] Re: No wifi in 4.13.0-41-generic

2018-06-07 Thread Robert Harrelsons
I already uploaded the output of 'apport-collect 1770108' on 2nd June
showing when the issue happens on 4.13.0-43-generic, and when there is
no-issue on 4.13.0-39-generic. Please read my corresponding comment on
2nd June as well.

Do you want to me run `apport-collect` without any ?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1770108] Re: No wifi in 4.13.0-41-generic

2018-06-06 Thread Robert Harrelsons
I have attached the output of "dpkg -l | grep linux | grep extra". The
output of that command was the same across both kernels
4.13.0-43-generic and 4.13.0-39-generic.

An important thing I would like to add is: the problem I had mentioned
regarding black screen, low-graphics, dialog boxes, and no wifi happens
9/10 times in kernels 4.13.0-43-generic and 4.13.0-41-generic.

But, 1/10 times those kernels boot absolutely normally, and wifi also
works at that time.

It seems to me that maybe sometimes the OS cannot detect certain things
(devices/drivers) during boot-up. Could this be due to a virus or
hardware problem?

Thanks!

I only upgrade via the Ubuntu Software Updater whenever it feels like
doing so. How do I ensure the -extra package gets installed? Does this
indicate a problem with the Updater Software?

I guess the linux-image-extra-4.13.0-41-generic didn't get installed.
The wifi drivers are in the -extra package.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1770108] Re: No wifi in 4.13.0-41-generic

2018-06-02 Thread Robert Harrelsons
I am facing this same problem with 4.13.0-41-generic as well as
4.13.0-43-generic. When I boot in either of those kernels, I first get a
black screen with a dialog box saying: "The system is running in low-
graphics mode - your screen, graphics card, and input device settings
could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these
yourself."

When I click OK, it gives another dialog box where I choose "Try running
with default graphical mode". Then Ubuntu Desktop boots properly, but
the network (wireless) symbol is there but empty. No network connection.

I tried disabling Networking or Wi-fi, and enabling them again, but
nothing changes.

I have attached the output of the apport-collect 1770108 run on a
terminal. I ran the command on the 4.13.0-43-generic kernel first, and
then rebooted into 4.13.0-39-generic kernel and ran it again. In the
4.13.0-43-generic kernel, it does not do much but print errors to
std_error since it cannot connect to the Internet. It works in the
4.13.0-39-generic kernel and opens the launchpad webpage.
