After running "sudo pm-hibernate" and "sudo systemctl hibernate" commands the laptop swithced off, making me think that every thing was good. After rebooting it start as it was not hibernated. Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.18 kernel[0]. Thank you very much for your reply. Yes I think it was due to kernel update that has been taken after the fresh installation of Ubuntu 18.04 since I was trying to enable hibernation I searched the web and followed some (how-to)s. But it was giving me this problem report. Recently I went again for fresh installation of Ubuntu 18.08 and noticed that using its default kernel I was able to get hibernation into work following some straight forward steps and now everything is OK. Sorry that I didn't reply earlier to tell that I went for new fresh installation. And sorry again that I can not test your steps here. Because every thing is going well now.
