[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793111] Re: [Asus UX331UAL] Touchpad events become slow and laggy

2018-10-07 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Not really.
So I think what I am working on and what you've been seeing are two different
bugs.

Title:
[Asus UX331UAL] Touchpad events become slow and laggy

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My laptop's touchpad starts fast and smooth:

  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest 142Hz, Average 141Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest 142Hz, Average 141Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest 142Hz, Average 141Hz

But after holding one finger down (click) and moving a second finger,
the stream of events from the kernel slows way down:

  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest35Hz, Average47Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest47Hz, Average47Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest47Hz, Average47Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest27Hz, Average46Hz

which is very noticeable on screen. Those measurements are from:
https://gitlab.com/iankelling/evhz but the problem was very obvious on
  the desktop before that.

After a while, seemingly randomly, the touchpad will eventually return
  to the full speed :/

Possibly related, but maybe not since it's at different times, the
  kernel says:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793111] Re: [Asus UX331UAL] Touchpad events become slow and laggy

2018-09-27 Thread Myah Enochs
Same thing happened to me in 4.19.0. Switched to Mint with kernel
versions 4.19 and 4.18.3 and the same problem persists. Laggy and
TouchPad does not work at all, except in the login screen. After initial
install of Ubuntu it worked fine for about a day, then stopped after a
reboot.

If it is a kernel bug at all. This might be a firmware/hardware fault :(

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793111] Re: [Asus UX331UAL] Touchpad events become slow and laggy

2018-09-18 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
[Asus UX331UAL] Touchpad events become slow and laggy

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My laptop's touchpad starts fast and smooth:

  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest 142Hz, Average 141Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest 142Hz, Average 141Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest 142Hz, Average 141Hz

But after holding one finger down (click) and moving a second finger,
the stream of events from the kernel slows way down:

  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest35Hz, Average47Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest47Hz, Average47Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest47Hz, Average47Hz
  ELAN1200:00 04F3:309C Touchpad: Latest27Hz, Average46Hz

which is very noticeable on screen. Those measurements are from:
https://gitlab.com/iankelling/evhz but the problem was very obvious on
  the desktop before that.

After a while, seemingly randomly, the touchpad will eventually return
  to the full speed :/

Possibly related, but maybe not since it's at different times, the
  kernel says:

  [ 8191.785882] i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1200:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1793111] Re: [Asus UX331UAL] Touchpad events become slow and laggy

2018-09-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Workaround:

The problem stops happening if I unplug the AC power and just run off
battery.
