Indeed - as reported in that bug, eSATA hotplug does work on Ubuntu 16.04 (just tried the live image of 16.04.6, kernel 4.15.0-45-generic), so this is actually a regression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890883 Title: [ICH9M] (e)SATA hotplug doesn't work Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hardware is a laptop - DELL Latitude E6400, SATA controller Intel ICH9M with 4 ports, at least 2 of which should be hotplug-enabled - the optical drive bay which has an push-to-eject mechanism, and a combo eSATA+USB port on the side. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1890883] Re: [ICH9M] (e)SATA hotplug doesn't work
@Kai - if I change the policy after startup (the default value is med_power_with_dipm), I still have to issue a manual scan once (doesn't matter if a device is attached or not), but subsequent attach/detach changes are noticed as expected. I found that kernel-cmdline equivalent of this setting should be ahci.mobile_lpm_policy=0, but haven't found if/how to apply this change to a specific ahci host port. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890883 Title: [ICH9M] (e)SATA hotplug doesn't work Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hardware is a laptop - DELL Latitude E6400, SATA controller Intel ICH9M with 4 ports, at least 2 of which should be hotplug-enabled - the optical drive bay which has an push-to-eject mechanism, and a combo eSATA+USB port on the side.
