This morning I did the kernel update that arrived yesterday. Now, after I login 
I get a solid green screen and that's where it stays.
the upgrade took the machine from:
vmlinuz-5.15.0-84-generic
To:
vmlinuz-5.15.0-86-generic

I rebooted into 84-generic and everything worked correctly, as pre-
update.
