Shankar, As I see, there are two aspects of learning filesystems. a) Understanding the ondisk layout. Once you are comfortable with it, you will be able to understand how it works, and how various ops commands manipulate the ondisk layout. This is file system specific. So if you are looking for this I would suggest some simple filesystem first like ext23 (not ext4 or some other btree based filesystems). b) Upper supporting layers for the filesystem ops.
