Re: [Kicad-developers] GitLab milestone cleanup

2020-06-25 Thread Nick Østergaard
What about feature requests / wishes from users that are very unlikely to
realise quickly? Should they still be assigned the new milestone?

I just worry they may clutter the overview too much, but I guess when we
will see how it goes. :) My concern may not be a real problem afterall.

[Kicad-developers] GitLab milestone cleanup

2020-06-25 Thread Jon Evans
Hi all,

I wanted to make it more clear what the remaining work is for 6.0, so
I created a new "6.0 Feature Freeze" milestone separate from the
6.0.0-rc1 milestone that already existed:

Those with permissions to assign milestones on GitLab: please assign
wishlist/feature-request items to the Feature Freeze milestone (if
they will be worked on for 6.0) and bug reports to the 6.0.0-rc1
milestone. That way, we can keep track of the remaining work needed
before feature freeze can happen separate from issues that could get
fixed after feature freeze.

Also, if anyone is planning on working on something for 6.0 and is not
currently assigned to it in GitLab, please assign yourself the issue
(and create the issue for it if it's not there yet!)

Thanks,
Jon

[Kicad-developers] WYSISYG pad editor

2020-06-25 Thread Jeff Young
I implemented a prototype of a WYSIWYG custom-pad shape editor.

You can ctrl-E on a pad and it explodes it and puts you into high-contrast mode
with the shapes. After editing the shapes a second ctrl-E re-combines
everything and exits high-contrast mode.

While it’s pretty neat if you do exactly that, it turns out to have a bazillion
corner cases. (What happens if you paste other stuff in; what happens if you
delete the pad anchor; what happens if you create new objects on different
layers; etc.)

So I was considering a different idea which would be more “regular” (from an
implementation perspective).

Basically it would be a command to explode *all* pads in the current footprint,
and a command to recombine everything. The recombine would expand outwards
from each pad to consume touching copper shapes. (It might still need a few
edge cases for net-ties.)

Thoughts?

[Kicad-developers] macOS on Arm

2020-06-25 Thread Adam Wolf
Hi folks!

I have applied to the Apple ARM transition program so I can be ready
for Apple's next macOS release. As part of that, I have signed an NDA
(harrumph), which means I may not be able to keep folks in-the-loop as
much as I'd like.

Thanks for your understanding!

Adam Wolf
