[Koha] Koha shows error on adding an item

2011-08-16 Thread Swaprava Nath

Hello all,

We recently installed Koha for our small library, and we don't have any
exposure to library sciences, we're just amateurs. We could install Koha
properly. But there is one error which is showing up at the end of
adding the item. I couldn't attach the csv file of our customized MARC
structure for the 40KB limit of mails.

screenshot of the error:

 Software error:

Can't call method subfield on an undefined value at
/usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Biblio.pm line 2881.

For help, please send mail to the webmaster (webmaster@debmaker32
mailto:webmaster@debmaker32), giving this error message and the time
and date of the error.

Even if we use the default MARC structure, we still get the error.
Interestingly, the item gets added to the record. However, while
checking out the item against a patron, after giving the Barcode and
pressing ok, we hit the same error page again. Even while returning the
book once we click on return the book, the same error comes. We saw some
community pages where people encountered this kind of a problem. We
don't have any clue to fix this. Any inputs? Thanks in advance.

Have you seen eXtensible Catalog?  It provides a top layer that is Drupal
based (one node per record as you mentioned).  And they have some nice
conversion utilities for grabbing catalog content and converting it to the
XC Schema which relies on Drupal for the OPAC layer.

around the same in Wellington 2010. Thats for the conference proper,

Hi Koustubha,

Just following up on my suggestion on IRC the other week about accessing the

Cath Sheard, Chris C and I are holding a demo session and Shelley Gurney is
doing a breaking down the barriers to Koha type of session. Both sessions are
on the Tuesday and all conference papers and presentations will be uploaded to
the LIANZA Online Library at the end of each day

Monday or Tuesday viewing at Kohacon. I thought this might be a good chance for

So, not a paper submission either I'm afraid, more an offer for something a bit

I am afraid I will not have time to submit written papers for publication
either. I have booked a week of annualleave immediately prior to KohaCon11

 Hi Koustubha

I don't ever write full presentations, only notes for myself.
Submitting full papers is a very academic conference type of thing to
do, this would definitely be the first Kohacon that had written papers.

Is this a must have, or just a 'it would be nice to have' condition?

 Hi chris,
Actually we are planning to have all the presentations / papers published
as a Souvenir plus CD. So in order to have the same ready for handing over
to participants during the conference itself, its necessary to have the
 papers / presentations in beforehand.

Still if the community feels this is not done. Let me know and I will

Exactly we would like to implement RFID in our library with Koha.
Anyone is using Koha with RFID, any problems occurred during the
 implementation.

We are using 3M RFID hardware. Selfcheck stations have SIP support and
that works fine.

Any additional software needed. Is it possible to create RFID tag using
 Koha.

I'm assuming you want to program RFID sticker tags which you want to
glue on books.

For that we are currently using slight modification to Koha which
includes barcode in title of window and small program which captures
that and triggers 3M program on Windows workstations.

However, since initial implementation, I implemented pure-perl driver
for our RFID reader (and several others) available at:

https://github.com/dpavlin/Biblio-RFID

which we use to program student's RFID cards (which are same standard
as book stickers).

It also includes proof-of-concept implementation of Koha integration
using nothing more than single javascript include (since driver itself
is pure-perl HTTP server and browser can contact it directly).

This code is not production quality yet (mostly because I didn't do
any testing on Windows which would be our deployment platform).

Which RFID hardware does your library have?

I have to agree with this. For an academic thing, I'd have research done
and papers written long before. However, for a less formal conference,
like Kohacon, it tends to only really take form in the month previous,
and I'm usually chopping and changing content right up to the day
before. And certainly not writing a full paper for it.

Or, perhaps more realistically, writing slides on the plane over, where
I can see the deadline approaching at 900kph ;)

It's not a bad idea to collect slides and other resources when you can,
and putting them up online somewhere though.
