Re: [Koha] Getting error on Data Migration

2011-11-17 Thread imageologist
Dear Linda,

Thanks for your guidance, I am using MARC21... I have converted "Text(Tab
delimited).txt" file to .mrk and then .mrc using MarcEdit (followed the
steps from http://lists.katipo.co.nz/public/koha/2010-December/026750.html)
... As far as 952 and 260 field concern I have no idea how I can convert my
data in single field trough MarcEdit (like your example: =082
\\$a917.6703/G925a/2000). Please guide me from where I get together my 952
and 260 fields in single line

Syed

[Koha] special collection.

2011-11-17 Thread Deborah Duce
Another question I'm afraid. How do you indicate 'special collections' in
KOHA . In Horizon we currently use TAG 449. We use this to list donations, ,
etc. With the initial migration that information has moved to a subject line.

Thank you for your help. Very much appreciated.

Subject: [Koha] "Not for loan" items and "Unavailable"

Hi

we'd be interesting to hear how other libraries using Koha deal with the
display of items marked "not for loan".

If you give an item the status of "not for loan" in the item record
(items.notforloan = 1) the display in the OPAC is "No items available" (in
red), the same as if all items are on loan.

However we think this is possibly a bit confronting for our users when what
we're trying to say is that the item is *available* - but only within the
library.

However if you get rid of the not for loan status and rely on, say, a public
note, there is no flag at checkout that the item is not meant for loan.

I know this can also be controlled using item types - our Reference and Rare
Books item types display as "Available" on the OPAC, but present a flag if you
attempt to loan them out. However there are many items that we would like to
make not for loan that don't neatly fit into a particular item type (eg. second
copies of some reports, etc.), and which we'd like to keep as part of one of
the other item types for reporting purposes.

Any feedback gratefully received.

2011-11-17 Thread Adalid Ortiz
I setup ITEMS like:

Libro (Reference, General stacks, other colecctions, etc.)
VHS
Tesis
etc.

In the ITEM type LIBRO group Reference books, Monographs, and all printed
colecctions.
In Authorized values define CCODE like AG (Acervo general), C (Consulta o
referencia), etc.

And finally in the add ITEM info (Library, Colecction, Copy number, barcodes,
etc.) I select "Not for loan" for books that not circulate. Works fine for me.
The "Not available" tags refers to title with no ITEMS.

Re: [Koha] Holds to Pull

2011-11-17 Thread Liz Rea
This is NEKLS experience as well. The hold queue does a few things.1. It has a cron job that runs periodically, regenerating the list.2. The list is weighted based on a couple of system preferences. This becomes important in consortia where you might want one library to be preferred over another (to, say, keep a small library with a great collection from being utterly inundated with hold requests, for example)3. The layout is a little nicer.Holds to Pull does the following:1. Shows every hold across all libraries2. Shows which libraries have copies of an item that can fill a hold (unlike the hold queue, which picks a specific library's item)3. Is useful, but not in the same way as the hold queue. If it helps you frame it, in Sirsi the Hold Queue was similar functionality to the Pick List.If you accept the default cron job, the build_holds_queue cron will run every hour. NEKLS chooses (for various reasons) to run it only 3 times a day. We use the holds queue exclusively for managing our holds.I hope this helps.

Re: [Koha] install koha-common debian 6

2011-11-17 Thread Automation
After installation you login at your server's IP, or hostname at
port 8080. Eg., http://myhostname-or-IPaddress:8080 .
In my case, I can use the IP or just http://localhost:8080 ( if in front of the
server ).
If it's not working, check your hosts file and Apache configs.

The username and password can be found by grepping the config
file located in /etc/koha/sites//koha-conf.xml.

Easiest way might be to do something like:

grep -r -B 2 "" /etc/koha/

( recursively search the /etc/koha/ directory for the xml
entry and show the two lines *before* the match. )

You'll see the results in xml format, look for the results from
the aforementioned koha-conf.xml file.

Of course, you could just open the file and look for the

entries.

Hope this helps!

Chad

Re: [Koha] "Not for loan" items and "Unavailable"

2011-11-17 Thread Niall ODriscoll
Thanks, Kurt

Do you know if they had to make a change to the coding, or is it
something that can be done out of the box?

The "Not for loan" status is controlled by an "Authorized value" in
administration - which only appears to allow you to create new wordings
to go with the status of not for loan - rather than change behaviours.

If I set up an "Available - Non-circulating" value, items with that
status still show on the results screen as "unavailable". I note that
this doesn't happen in your catalogue with your example.

However we think this is possibly a bit confronting for our users when
what we're trying to say is that the item is *available* - but only
within the library.

However if you get rid of the not for loan status and rely on, say, a
public note, there is no flag at checkout that the item is not meant for
loan.

I know this can also be controlled using item types - our Reference and
Rare Books item types display as "Available" on the OPAC, but present a
flag if you attempt to loan them out. However there are many items that
we would like to make not for loan that don't neatly fit into a
particular item type (eg. second copies of some reports, etc.), and
which we'd like to keep as part of one of the other item types for
reporting purposes.

Any feedback gratefully received.

Niall

Re: [Koha] "Not for loan" items and "Unavailable"

2011-11-17 Thread adalid
This CCODEs are already in the Koha standard setup and affect the
behavior. If i add an ITEM and select not for loan the circulation
desk can't loan the ITEM. The "Unavailable tag" refers to a Marc
record (Title) with no ITEMS to loan or have no ITEMS added yet.

Look at http://clavius.tij.uia.mx/cgi-bin/koha/opac-search.pl?q=manual

"Copias disponibles para préstamo" mean "available to loan" have ITEMS
"Copias disponibles para referencia" mean "for reference" not for loan but
still have ITEMS
"No hay copias disponibles mean" a MARC record without ITEMS

[Koha] Unlocking MARC Fields in Koha 3.06

2011-11-17 Thread Amber Amland
We just upgraded Koha, and in MARC the fields such as 650 a are locked, and
it looks like you're supposed to use authority search to fill them in.
However, authority search doesn't work, and I often have new names or
subjects that wouldn't be in there (I think). Does anyone know how to unlock
those fields?

We're now using Koha version 3.06.00.000 on Linux library

Thank you so much!

2011-11-17 Thread Niall ODriscoll
Thanks Felipe

which version of Koha are you using? We are on 3.2, and the behaviour we see on
our version is that records with items attached which are flagged "not for
loan" show as "unavailable" in search results (as if they are on loan). From
having a look at your catalogue, this is not the case for you.

[Koha] Items in offsite storage

2011-11-17 Thread Dianna Roberts
If any libraries have documents in offsite storage I'd like to know how you
use Koha to indicate their location at the storage facility, i.e. box number
etc., to identify items for retrieval if and when required.

I'm particularly interested in how to deal with individual issues of
serials. The company I've been talking to add their own barcodes which could
mean having two barcodes per item, ours and theirs.

Hi All
We are having trouble with our first stocktake. We created a word doc. in
which we scanned the barcodes of one section. We uploaded this to the
Stocktake section and filled in and ticked what we thought as the
explanation in the Online Documents is sketchy in this area. When we submit
we get gobbly gook i.e. symbols and the words barcode not found
Any ideas

Ah, ok... actually we are in 3.4 but 3 or 4 monts ago was 3.2. Maybe
the display template that we setup, XLST instead of default.

Re: [Koha] Fwd: Stocktake

2011-11-17 Thread Ian Bays

Hi.
My guess is you need the barcodes in a plain text document. The Word
document format is not usable in Koha as it stands.
I suggest you open the Word document and use File> Save as> Text
document to save it as plain text.

Then use that file as your stocktake.
In future you could just use Windows Notepad for plain text.
Good luck.
