[Koha] (no subject)

2012-06-04 Thread Haik Zargaryan
Dear community,

I am writing you again for an advice regarding our serials catalog. One of our
problems is to generate items for periodicals issues which
themselves are holdings. Ian in his response to my first mail mentioned that
issues have an option to generate items for themselves at the Subscription
level. But we do not know the tool, Can somebody hint us?

The second question is about the difficulties with cataloging our
newspapers. The fields that are for storing complex serial information,
like 853-855, 863-865, 866-868, are absent in koha. What we really need is to
display which issues we have and which are missing. Any advises?

Regards,

Haik.

Re: [Koha] Installing Koha on CentOS+cPanel Hosting Server

2012-06-04 Thread Bernardo Gonzalez Kriegel
Hi,

cPanel only provides Perl 5.8, but Perl module Modern::Perl can only
be installed on Perl 5.10 environment[1].

Koha (last versions) can only be installed on Perl = 5.10

What do you think?

In a situation like yours, I have downloaded and compiled Perl (on
/usr/local, 5.14),
then I installed all the required modules from CPAN (a long long work)
Then Koha. It works.

Get rid of cPanel and start providing Perl modules based on CentOS
environment will simplify the installing process of Koha?

My advice would be not to touch anything in the system.
Only install what is needed by Koha in /usr/local

I'm including the Koha list in my reply since the conversation started
there and this information might be useful to others.

According to version control the browse feature should be in 3.6.1,
but the system preference wasn't added until 3.6.5. So you should have
the feature but you won't be able to turn it off until you upgrade.

You're on 3.6.1 but you don't see the browse feature on OPAC detail pages?

Owen,

Is this the feature that appears in the item record when you have a list of
search results to go from one result to the next at the item level without
having to go back to the search screen?

[Koha] sort by Popularity

2012-06-04 Thread Howell, Lynda
Can anyone explain the basis for the sort by Popularity in the Koha OPAC?

Is it based on checkout frequency? # of copies owned? User ratings? ...?

Thanks!

Lynda.

Hal,

Thanks, that's helpful.

We don't circulate any of our materials, and we don't have multiple items on
anything (since everything's electronic), so I think I'm just going to remove
the sort option altogether.

 Lynda,
I'm pretty sure it is based on cicrculation or all the items on the record
 combined.

[Koha] Unable to input MARC field

2012-06-04 Thread Stew Wilson
Hi Everyone,
I'm very much a Koha newbie, so sorry if it's a silly question:

I have made myself a customised MARC framework. During this process I
accidentally deleted tag 260. So I added it again as a new tag and just
copied the details from the default framework. So now when I go into the
edit record screen of a book I can see tag 260, but I can't add any
information to it. I can see a cursor in each subfield, but I can't type
anything into it.

I guess this is something to do with authorities, but sadly I have no idea
if this is true, or how to fix it.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Cheers,
Stew
