Re: [Koha] Mysqldump and Ubuntu

2012-06-24 Thread David Nind
Hi Clint.

Both ways of entering the mysqldump command are valid and should work (at
least they do on Debian, I don't have mysql installed on my Ubuntu desktop
so can't check).

If you type man mysqldump from the command line you will get a list of
options, which will also show the shortcut way to enter the same command
e.g. instead of --user=myuser you can just go -u myuser. This is very
convenient if you need to run the command a lot. Most people, and lots of
tutorials, tend to use the shortcut format.

For an even quicker way you don't have to enter the space between the
shortcut command and the value e.g. -u myuser can be entered as -umyuser

In addition, you don't need to end the filename you are saving the data to
with .sql, but a lot of people do to help identify what is in the file. You
can open these files with any text editor.

There are many good MySql tutorials on the web. A couple of good tutorials
from a quick search are:
- This one looks okay:
http://www.mysqltutorial.org/how-to-backup-database-using-mysqldump.aspx
- A good basic SQL general tutorial doesn't go astray either:
http://w3schools.com/sql/default.asp

The wiki version you have here looks almost correct, except there should be no
space after the -p. That space will cause errors. Otherwise, your version
means exactly the same thing.

As a non-librarian my only comment is that this seems like a very strange
'feature' to have. I have an item checked out, someone else wants it and
can't wait until it is returned by the normal due date (using the
holds/reserve feature), but can then make me return it early! (I know what
my response would be!). After a quick search on the internet it looks like
something academic libraries might use. I could understand this type of
feature if the loan period for an item was months or years. As 'they' say,
every library is a little different

Re: [Koha] Rebuild-zebra stops working very often...

2012-06-24 Thread Sonia P .

Hi there

Here is what our technician said in relation to your message :
If Zebra cannot connect to the database, Koha itself will not work.
The database connection error is unrelated to the Koha search
problem.

The Zebra logs are located under /var/log/koha/library, I
have looked at the zebra-output.log file contained within
the directory, there is nothing in it and it hasn't been written to
since April 24. The zebra-error.log in the same directory
hasn't been written to since the computer was installed.

So I don't know what to do... We are stuck. I can't restart zebra every two
hours. Would reinstalling everything help? Wouldn't it take two weeks to set
up and fix everything?
If you have any idea about what's going on...

Cheers,

Sonia.

Ahh that is not the zebra error log. But the rebuild zebra one. I think you may
be confusing zebra with the job to rebuild the zebra indexes, they are 2 quite
different things.

However not being able to talk to the database is a fatal error for the rebuild
zebra script. The database failing will also cause all sorts of other errors. I
would get your tech people to look at your database set up. Something very bad
is going wrong there.

I am not sure it's related. And there is no time day in the error file, so I
