[Koha] Rental book collection - suppressing rental items
Does anyone else out there have a rental book or dvd collection they are providing to customers using Koha? We have been charged (no pun intended) by our board to provide popular books and dvds on a first come/first served rental basis, for a nominal charge. I can see how to set up the rental fees, but I can't figure out how to make the items non-holdable (which is necessary to make the collection first come/first served). Is it just a matter of suppressing the items that will be rented? Do they need separate bib records? Anyone with experience providing a rental collection service: if you can share your best practices, I would very much appreciate it. Re: [Koha] KOHA DNS
Augusto, I think that what you need to do is: 1) Assign a name to the IP address of your server (this belongs to the DNS administrator) 2) Edit koha-httpd.conf, look for VirtualHost entries, and replace VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80 with VirtualHost aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd:80 or VirtualHost *:80 depending on you apache configuration (aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is your IP address) Also change ServerAlias opac.mydomain.com with ServerAlias your.domain.name Repeat for the intranet entry. Re: [Koha] Koha data back-up
Hi, How can I take back-up? depends on your current Koha version. In later ones there is a script to do that for you: bin/cronjobs/backup.sh That's a starting point. I want to transfer all my data (document records (all MARC fields), patron records, circulation status and transaction history, various reports, etc.) to another KOHA platform. How do I do it? In the new system replace the database with your backup, then login in the staff interface and let Koha do his magic to update your database, and you should end up with an updated version. But depends on your current version. Regards, Bernardo ___ Koha mailing list http://koha-community.org Koha@lists.katipo.co.nz http://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha

I think it depends on whether or not you share your records. If you stick with using the 040 for a specific library's cataloging symbol/name, then the 008 position 39 can be correctly encoded for the source of the record. (For example, records I create on OCLC are coded d.) If you use the approved values, and you share your records, or ever will share your records, they will validate in the other system(s). I think it is not possible to restrict hols on a given item, only at item type level by circulation rules. So, you can disable holds for the item type (not good) or create new item types (Popular Books, Popular DVDs) with holds disabled and assign items to them. Holds enabled and disabled items could coexist in the same record. When an item is not more popular, edit and assign it to the original type.
