[Koha] Importing data into Koha 3.14

2014-06-06 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello,

I am trying to import data into Koha 3.14 from a .mrc file. I know that in
order to insert an item it has to be under tag 952. But my file has a special
structure where the items are separated from the bib record and linked to it
through tag 004. Below is a sample record with its item. I appreciate any idea
that you can give which helps me importing these records into Koha.

Hello,

Simply use find and replace option in marcedit and replace =004 acc. number
with =952 \\$pfile:///\\$p acc. number.

Hello,

=004 115761

=952 \\$p115761

However, few more things need to be add in 952 field for each accession number
like location, item type, call number etc all these are possible through
marcedit and you have to explore the options given their.

Hello,

I really appreciate your prompt response. I fixed the record as you suggested
and added the $p number to the 952 field but still when importing, I get a
record without items and the second record also imported separate from the
first one. Here is the record imported. Please let me know what wrong I am
doing and if there are special settings I should select while importing for

[Koha] About example with the 952 field

2014-06-06 Thread zolot
Hi All,

In Koha 3.14 Manual (en) there is the Tag 952 Subfield constraint table
(see section '4.1.4. Edit
Framework Subfield' of the chapter '2. Administration').

Why exactly 952 ?
Is it accident ? Maybe, this field randomly has been selected as an example of
the ordinary field ?

Or, maybe, this is more essential, the 952 field is a special field in the Koha
system ?
For instance, not for cataloging but for a management ctalogues.

Gennady

Hello,

At least second record should show the item details as it contains 952 field
but check the location, item type field, better is to enter one record in koha
then export it in marc format and view structure of exported record so that you
can convert your all records accordingly.

Hi

There is no problem you have separate records from bib items, Koha
imports tool it is able to join both without any problem.

1st import biblio marc into koha as usuarl
2nd ajust items marc records according the 952 requirements of koha, the
most important fields 952$abop, you should map 852 into 952 the besto
possible way, i suggest to copy items.001 to some empty firlds of 952 in
order to be able to track
3rd change 004 into 001 in items.marc record
4rd create a new matching rule in koha to match the index control-number
5 import marc.items records into koha, assign match record using 001

*note:make sure to not replace existing marc record in kohanota: maje sure
to ignore new records (it shouldn't be new records)*

*nota: configure add items.*
If you do wll all these steps, the items will be attached to the right
bibliographic record

I hope it helps

 Hello,

At least second record should show the item details as it contains 952
field but check the location, item type field, better is to enter one
record in koha then export it in marc format and view structure of exported
record so that you can convert your all records accordingly.

Re: [Koha] [koha] Collecting Dewey codes ?

2014-06-06 Thread Stefano Bargioni
Hi, Frederic:
you may see Obtaining the Dewey Decimal Classification Number from other
databases: a catalog clean-up project [1]
where MARC21 or Unimarc sources (through Z39.50, SRU, web scraping...) where
used to enrich our catalog.
The batch and the online version of Dewey import processes are presented in [2].
HTH. Stefano

[1] http://leo.cineca.it/index.php/jlis/article/view/8766
[2] http://www.slideshare.net/stefanobargioni/bargioni-dewey

I want to collect dewey codes to complete my database.
I was thinking about using z39.50 servers to get them but I have 2questions:
 - I want to use 2 different servers; one in marc21 and one in unimarc. As
z39.50 only works for servers using the same format as me, Is there a way
to collect the dewey code of the other server with an alternative? What
 about SRU ?
 - My second question is: When importing that dewey code, I dont want other
data (like title author etc) to overwrite mines. How can I do that?

 Thx for responses,

 Frederic Edmont

[Koha] Request for Support to Integrate ElasticSearch into Koha

2014-06-06 Thread Sebastian Hierl
Dear Colleagues,

I recently sent this message to ByWater Solutions partner institutions,
but I would like to expand my call and solicit your support for integrating
ElasticSearch http://www.elasticsearch.org/ into Koha. The goal is to
add a new search engine next to the current Zebra search engine. This is a
fundamental, strategic development that will ensure that Koha remains
relevant in the coming years and that will benefit the entire Koha
community.

The current Zebra search engine works fine, but it is of a previous
generation and has important limitations. In particular, it doesn't allow
us to take full advantage of linked data. Koha currently links to Google
Books and Scholar, Amazon, the Open Library, and WorlCat. This is
wonderful, but automatic links to Google Books and Amazon are limited to
recent publications with ISBN (in use only since the 1970s) and access to
Google Scholar, the Open Library and WorldCat is limited to a title keyword
search. With the proposed dependencies for implementing ElasticSearch
http://www.elasticsearch.org/, we will expand these options and
facilitate linking to most any repository by providing a MARC to RDF
crosswalk and greater flexibility to ingest other metadata schemes.

Providing libraries with the option to select ElasticSearch
http://www.elasticsearch.org/ as their preferred search engine instead of
Zebra (it is important to stress that this would be a choice), would open
the door to linking to the full content of Google Books and the Hathi
Trust, the Digital Public Library and other repositories, or to controlled
vocabularies, such as the Library of Congress Authorities
http://id.loc.gov/ or VIAF http://viaf.org/. Linking could be
established on a number of criteria, including keywords, but also OCLC
numbers and LCCN.

In short, implementing Koha with ElasticSearch
http://www.elasticsearch.org/ would open the world of linked data and
permit Koha to function in a manner more similar to current discovery
tools. Today, to benefit from the flexibility that discovery tools
provide, you would have to implement one in addition to Koha. That means
contracting with another company or developing your own. Few of us will be
able to afford that. With ElasticSearch http://www.elasticsearch.org/,
the Koha community would be able to gradually develop Koha to fulfill the
same purpose, with the added benefit that the current development of
ElasticSearch http://www.elasticsearch.org/ in Koha provides the option
to browse the collection. In this manner, users would be able to perform
powerful and fast keyword searches, as well as browse the collection by
author, title, subject or call number, and link out to repositories for
access to the full text or to controlled vocabularies. Currently we cannot
browse the catalog in useful methods with Zebra.

An additional benefit is that ElasticSearch http://www.elasticsearch.org/
will improve speed, as you can cluster the search engine and actually
control and configure the configuration files to use more system resources.
The initial data is cross-walked from MARC to JSON, which is a lightweight
metadata schema and which will greatly improve speed. Finally,
ElasticSearch http://www.elasticsearch.org/ is open source and, just like
Koha, benefits from a dynamic community supporting its continued growth.

To keep Koha relevant and to expand its functionality mattersto all of us
and I would like to ask you to contribute to this development by contacting
bren...@bywatersolutions.com or kath...@catalyst.net.nz -- please also feel
free to contact me.

Best regards from Rome,

Sebastian Hierl

Re: [Koha] Looking for more Serials Documentation help

2014-06-06 Thread Elaine Bradtke
We are just getting around to putting our serials in Koha and yes, I am
baffled. I was hoping to use the system to help us better track the
serials as they come in so we could claim missing issues in a timely
fashion. But the couple attempts I made to set up a fairly simple
subscription pattern didn't work as expected. So I'm adding my voice to
the appeal - if anyone really understands this, expanding the manual to
include more examples and more thorough explanations would really, really
help.

 Hi!

I have to admit that we find the serials module to be rather baffling.
Although we are using it to check in new issues so that our patrons can get
an email notification when new issues arrive, I couldn't really tell you
why it's doing what it's doing, and I have to say that I'm far from
understanding it. And I'm no serials system newbie--I've been using such
systems since the days of Innovacq way before ILS's were twinkles in the
eyes of developers--but getting our subscriptions to behave in a 'good
enough' manner on Koha seems to have been rather hit and miss, and I
haven't taken the time to fine tune them.

I also haven't taken the time to figure out claiming, since I wasn't sure
it would be a better solution than just walking around our Reading Room
every now and then to eyeball what hasn't come in and just shooting an
email off to the publisher to get our missing issue(s). Granted, we don't
have a lot of current subscriptions! We also gave up on using Koha for
acquisitions except for storing subscription vendors, since it doesn't meet
our needs--federal purchasing is a bit byzantine, and we have no money to
 contribute towards developments.

I'll keep my eyes open when receiving issues for subscriptions that could
benefit from some work, and will try to compare things with the manual--if
I can contribute anything, I'd be happy to do it--but I may just be
 contributing more questions!

[Koha] Overdrive Integration

Hi!
We're just about to go live with Koha. We've got our Overdrive integration set

[Koha] Report help needed - filter by itemtype

2014-06-06 Thread Elaine Bradtke
I can't seem to get the report to filter on item type. Probably another
typo somewhere. it works if I take out this
line: biblioitems.itemtype=‘BK’ But I want to filter by books (and
eventually other item types).

SELECT
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=100]/subfield[@code=a]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=245]/subfield[@code=a]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=245]/subfield[@code=b]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=245]/subfield[@code=c]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=260]/subfield[@code=a]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=773]/subfield[@code=t]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=773]/subfield[@code=g]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=260]/subfield[@code=b]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=260]/subfield[@code=c]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=300]/subfield[@code=a]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=020]/subfield[@code=a]'),
ExtractValue(b.marcxml, '//datafield[@tag=022]/subfield[@code=a]'),

year(datecreated) AS year,
biblionumber AS biblionumber
LEFT JOIN biblioitems b USING (biblionumber)
FROM biblio
WHERE biblioitems.itemtype=‘BK’ AND datecreated

That's the patch that you need.

 Hi!
We're just about to go live with Koha. We've got our Overdrive integration
set up, but in the Overdrive search results page all of the titles come up
with links that start with http// rather than http://.
In the list archive I see a discussion from March 2014 of a bug arising
from a change in Overdrive's APIs. Was that the same issue I'm seeing?
Anything I can do about it from my end?

 Thanks,
