available in our koha database. The best example is Google search, as Google
 shows suggestion under the term.

This feature does not exist in Koha. The closest thing Koha has is the

[Koha] Koha vs Liblime Koha

2014-12-04 Thread Jesse Lambertson
Hello everyone,

We are about to set up our servers and technical services for our library
here at the Cultural Center.

Changing offices and events have kept us very busy.

But I was looking at the LibLime version of Koha and wondered, out of
curiosity, what problems I might run into if I installed their version
instead of the current stable version as hosted on the community wiki.

Just curious if anyone has run into any issues that might pop up in this
instance or if the installation and upgrading process would all be the same.

Thanks in advance,

Jesse

Any doubt about the community Koha, please feel free to ask.

 Hi Jesse

One major point, is that the Liblime software is by their own admission not
Koha. It is based on Koha from about 2008/2009.
It is also maintained by one company (Liblime) whereas Koha, is maintained
by many companies and volunteers worldwide.

Of course this being the Koha list, we would recommend Koha.

Re: [Koha] Koha vs Liblime Koha

2014-12-04 Thread Hernandez, Heather
Hi, Jesse!

It's my impression that the LibLime version of Koha isn't really an open
source product, since LibLime doesn't release their code at all--it's more
like a proprietary product. So asking us on this list about LibLime's
Koha, here where we talk about the fully open source community
supported Koha, is sort of like asking us about Innovative Milennium or any
other proprietary ILS--you'll probably get a lot of shoulder-shrugging! I
would guess that if you choose LibLime's Koha you'd have all the same
problems and issues as if you chose any other proprietary system.

I'm sorry that I don't know a good place to find out about LibLime's
Koha--we have been completely happy with our choice of the fully open
source and community supported Koha, and never want to go back to
proprietary systems!

Good luck!

Liblime software may or may not be so far removed from Koha by now

Koha 3.18 uses DOM not GRS1 for indexing by default.

I think that is the problem at least.

It'd also be good to modify Koha so it gives more meaningful information

Unfortunately, I have not received any suggestions for my previous query and
re-posting my question again.

Now, I would like to know, How Book Bank and General stocks are maintained
at least in Indian
Libraries using Koha ? Since, Both Special Category Students and General
Students have stocks and different rules for borrowing books. How are the
books cataloged for these stocks.
Please share your best practices.

Need Suggestions for : New Item Type or New Koha Instance.

Background- Our Library has following scenario :

Patrons: categorized as:
1. Regular (General) Students
2. Backward Category Students.

Collections:
Two set of collections are maintained,
1. General Stocks - for ALL Students.
(including backward category)

2. Book Bank ( Special Collections ONLY for Backward Category Students)

Circulation Rules:
1. Regular Students can borrow books only from General Stocks but not from
Book Bank.

2. Backward Category Students can barrow books from both General Stocks and
Book Bank
Currently, check-in/check-out is by providing separate backward student id
card along with regular common id card.

My Questions is:
Can above said Circulation criteria be fulfilled either by creating a new
Item Type - Book Bank and adding records to it, along with default item
type : Books and then create a circulation rules for both the item types.
OR
New Instance of Koha (separate database) for Book Bank Library to be created
(along with existing one for general stocks)?

At present, I have completed updating bibliorecords for the General Stocks
and used to issue-return books from General Stock (for Regular + Backward
students). But, I am not sure about, proceeding for accommodating only
backward students category for getting books from Book Bank Library through
koha.

Your suggestions are valuable for me and much appreciated.

Re: [Koha] Catalogue - SQL Report Help

2014-12-04 Thread SATISH
Hi,

Unfortunately, I have not received any help for generating a report on
following subject and, re-described my problem.

I am looking for a report which has list of all unique titles(biblio
records) in a home library AND also by collection code.
When I tried for nearest relevant SQL examples given in wiki,
it gives me, whole list of items along with biblios records that is not
useful and I wanted to have information only on unique records (titles).

Please advice.

with thanks.

The same is not available over there.
Many examples in the website, fetches for whole items in the library.
I need to have report on List of Unique titles available in the library
( i.e., Records) and Total Number of books (i.e.,Items).
 report should include list of {title,author,publisher,edition, price}
 not just counts.

Re: [Koha] Koha vs Liblime Koha

2014-12-04 Thread Chrispin Simasiku Sitali
LibLime Koha on the Koha Community! You are alone Jesse. My advice to you
is to install LibLime Koha and test it in something like a virtual
environment after the test drive you can then compare it with anything.
Also ask the people who use LibLime Koha other wise asking about Liblime
Koha on this community may not get you useful information. Good Luck

Just curious if anyone has run into any issues that might pop up in this
instance or if the installation and upgrading process would all be the
 same.

 Thanks in advance,

 Jesse
