Re: [Koha] Koha on ubuntu - git
What do you need it for? If you are going to install Koha on production server, you should follow these instructions http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_Debian Which guides you to install stable 3.20 or oldstable 3.18 version. It does not make much sense for me to install 3.16 for new production server. If you are going to install development server, you can install as mentioned on http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_git and after installation is done, you can use branch 3.16.x in git. Re: [Koha] Koha on ubuntu - git
Thanks for the quick answer. As I am a Koha newbie I would like to study Koha git in a local demo server. As I have little experience with Git there's a lot to learn. If I want to select the 3.16.x branch is this the correct syntax: git checkout -b mywork_3.16.x origin/3.16.x -- View this message in context: http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Koha-on-ubuntu-git-tp5845989p5846060.html Sent from the Koha-general mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Koha mailing list http://koha-community.org Koha@lists.katipo.co.nz https://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha

[Koha] Duplicate check in Koha at the time of ordering
Please clarify, If there are thousands of books a library is going to place order in bulk how following works can be done through Koha? 1. How duplicate check can be done at the time of entering data by many staffs simultaneously i.e. suppose a staff entered a books in a order and same book is now entered by another staff than is it possible to check duplicate that it has been entered? it may be in a case where many are placing written request to library for purchasing books. 2. Is it possible to enter/choose the requester name at the time of feeding book data so that he can get the alerts as well as reports should also include the requester name while ordering? adding name may be possible in 3.20 i think but many names can be selected not only one (requester) -- *With Regards,Vinod Kumar Mishra,Assistant Librarian,Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL),* *NIT Rourkela,* *Sundergadh-769008,* *Odisha,* *India.* *Mob:91+9439420860* *Website: http://mishravk.com/ http://mishravk.com/* ___ Koha mailing list http://koha-community.org Koha@lists.katipo.co.nz https://lists.katipo.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/koha

There are 4 distinct security releases in the last 2 years. I'm sorry, but a 2 year production cycle is not realistic in terms of security. And if you argue they were as recent in previous year, I would argue that the quality level of Koha has been improving over time. Consider that debian packages in production were only as of 3.4! Have you seen the massive interface improvements since 3.6.x?! The underlying libraries and technologies have been improved as well. All these sorts of improvements include an increased testing and awareness of security issues. and only follow the minor/major releases on a sandbox to keep up with enhancements for the next production upgrade. The principle of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. -- security issues are by definition broken. So while I agree with the principle, the problem is reality is rather cruel and things break more frequently than we would like. Re: [Koha] Request to be enlisted as Koha Support Provider (Paid)
Dear All, First of all we like to thank you for reviewing our request. One thing Mr. Mishra pointed out right that in our webpage there were several points those could be considered as default features of Koha - but those were not for misleading anyone but to give impression to our prospected customers about what they are supposed to get. However as you raised this point- we made necessary changes in our web page. But it is true that we obviously made some customizations for our clients as per their requirements while installing Koha for their libraries- i.e. various custom reports, library clearance certificates, necessary changes in Patron Data (for college / university libraries) like for students - Dept, Class, Roll, Year etc. and for Teachers - Dept, Subject, Tenures etc., we have included various custom report export facilities to Spreadsheet Format, Barcode / Spine Label export to Document format, for public libraries we included different voter (patrons) lists, and many more. For your satisfaction we are giving you contact details of our several clients, you may contact them and verify our works 1.
