[Koha] How to import thesaurus data into a KOHA instance?

2018-08-07 Thread hartmann
Hi,

I am part of a team that tries to get a KOHA instance configured for an
existing library. Among other things we want to import a thesaurus of
keywords and authors to be used later when we add the actual books to the
catalogue.

I do have the keyword/author data in electronically processable form. I am
a software developer and I will be able to convert them to any format that
KOHA might need. But I dont know what KOHA needs and how to actually import
those data into KOHA. So my question basically is how to do that.

* Is there any step-by-step guide how to import thesausus data into KOHA?
The standard web interface does not seem to have this capability and right
now I have access to KOHA only via the standard web interface / intranet, no
access to the computer on which KOHA is actually installed.

* What format will I have to convert these data to for a successful import
into KOHA? Is there a specification for this, maybe an XML schema or
something similar?

Thanks in advance to the experts,

Hi,
Follow this link for step by step guide.
https://koha-community.org/manual/16.11/html/apls02.html

You need to have data in excel sheet which you will convert into MARC21 format.

Hope this helps!

Hi Hira!

You can choose the field you want to print in : More > Tools > Catalog >
Label Creator.
You have to create a new Layout and edit the 'List Fields', you can
specify MARC subfields as a 4-character tag-subfield string: (ie. 254a for
the title field). You can also enclose a whitespace-separated list of
fields to concatenate on one line in double quotes. (ie. "099a 099b" or
"itemcallnumber barcode").

identity cards are most commonly referred to as 'i-card'
in India

Rajesh:

please educate yourself from here
https://koha-community.org/manual/17.11/en/html/03_tools.html#patron-card-creator

By default, Koha allows 3 text fields, 2 images (one of which is usually
the patron image) and 1 barcode on a card. If you need more than that you
have to read up the related Perl code and dabble with XML.

There are no fixed sizes as different libraries use different size of card.
CR80 is one of the most popular sizes for ID cards (same size a Credit /
ATM card). Figure out what size you require, sit down with a straight edge
rule and a calculator, along with Koha's patron card creator tool and work
it out. Use postscript points for measurements and you should be good.

Re: [Koha] How to import thesaurus data into a KOHA instance?

2018-08-07 Thread Eric Phetteplace
Hi André,

It may be worth noting that the data you describe are called "authority
records" e.g. definitive names for authors and subject terms. You can
import authority MARC records from a prior system using the Tools > Stage
MARC records for import page. It may also be worth researching these two
settings:

- BiblioAddsAuthorities

- AutoCreateAuthorities

which relate to the automatic creation of authority records when terms are
used in bibliographic records. If you later import your bibliographic
records, they may generate a bunch of authority records in any case
depending on how your configure those options. Good luck!

Best,

ERIC PHETTEPLACE
