Re: [Koha] How to koha OPAC New Arrivals Books Display (Koha CoverFlow plugin)

2019-06-11 Thread Alvaro Cornejo
Hi

I tried to install coverflow following this tutorials but was unable to
make it run.

After saving the coverflow config and going out of pluging page, on
returning to the plugin page it does not show the plugin. If I do upload it
again, it uploads and shows the config I entered on my previous install
try... I´ve enabled plugins on koha config file and in opac variables

I used coverflow 2.4.24 since latest versions does not support my Koha
version 17.05.14. I´m using memcache that I reset along with apache2
service after modifying apache config.

I have both opac and admin interface redirected to use ssl and the apache2.
So I tried to place the apache scriptalias info in and out the virtual
directory with no success.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Alvaro

Does it have mandatory fields in the event setup forms so that reporting is

Hi Chad,

We use LibCal, which works pretty good, although we do have some specific
needs that it was not designed for. We have integrated it into our web site
using LibCal's APIs. We have not integrated it with Koha.

Chad,

Right now we are using the built in calendar and event features with Civics
Plus the CMS that the city has us using for our website. It is not perfect but
it does the job.

We have an internal database that we are building for tracking the specifics
and statistics for our programing. But are interested in and are keeping an eye
on the development of Intercept (https://www.libraryintercept.com/why/).

I recently had to do this again for an upgrade, and found this exact error. It
means the mysql user koha_mylibrary exists, but does not have a password
assigned, so it can´t be found and erased properly.

you can add a password (it doesn´t matter which you use, it will be removed
with koha-remove mylibrary), from mysql, with:

grant all on koha_mylibrary.* to koha_mylibrary@localhost identified with
'thispasswordwillberemovedbykoha-remove';

then koha-remove should be able to work.

Re: [Koha] [EXTERNAL] Awards location?

2019-06-11 Thread Hernandez, Heather
Hi, Jesse--

I would hesitate to put a 650 in a record for the award that an item won,
since that item wouldn't be *about* the award--if I wanted a 6XX field for
an award, I'd be tempted to use a 655 instead. Our collection is very
different, being a special/museum library, but we're having good luck using
tags for awards, reading lists on which an item's appeared, etc. We still
put a note into the bibliographic record about this (and, yes, a 586 is the
right note for an award, and it is searched by keyword), but then add tags
for the award, reading list, etc. You can see lots of ours in our tag
cloud:
https://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-tags.pl
This has an added benefit of users being able to also apply tags for such
awards, reading lists, etc.

Alternatively, public lists might be useful, but we haven't tried that
since we have few items in our collection that have received particular
awards, mentions, etc.

Another approach when there are lots of items for a particular award might
be to create a bibliographic record for it with 856 links to your catalog
records for the books. We have an example of this where we created a
bibliographic record for a popular reading list with 856 links to our
catalog records for the titles on the list, in order--it's kind of a dense
record, but it works pretty well. The 856 links for, e.g., an annual award
could have, e.g., 856 fields like this (completely made up example):
856 4 0 $3 2017, Koha catalog design for beginners $u https://koha...
856 4 0 $3 2018, Why I love authority records $u https://koha...
856 4 0 $3 2019, Putting the advanced into the advanced bibliographic
editor $u https://koha...
This bibliographic record could have the 6XX field for the award, 245 of
the award, etc., and the records being linked to have their 586 fields,
too. This would be pretty easy to maintain since you just add the
appropriate 856 link(s) for the newly awarded items as they're cataloged,
and you wouldn't have to create a new authority type to search the award
note field, worry so much about consistency of the format/wording of this
authority controlled-ish note in the 586 field, etc.

Here's our example record of this type of record:
https://keys.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=35022

Hope this is helpful! Cheerio,
h2

Re: [Koha] Cannot find records created in KoHa

2019-06-11 Thread Michael Kuhn

Hi Patric

Since I don't know how you tried to rebuild your index:

In one of your earlier e-mails I saw this - it is NOT a good idea to
rebuild your index as user "root" (or doing most anything on a Linux
machine, for various reasons, among them permission problems and missing
environments):

# koha-rebuild-zebra -b -f -v ausleihe-test

Thus:

1. Be sure (once again) you got the correct permissions.

# ls -al /var/lib/koha/ausleihe-test/{authorities,biblios}/*
# ls -al /var/lock/koha/ausleihe-test/{authorities,biblios,rebuild}

If they are not correct - correct them.

2. Rebuild your index (assuming your unprivileged Linux user is named
"koha"):

# su - koha
$ sudo koha-rebuild-zebra -b -f -v ausleihe-test

3. Or if you really need to do it as user "root" then set the following
variables first:

# export PERL5LIB="/usr/share/koha/lib"
# export KOHA_CONF="/etc/koha/sites/ausleihe-test/koha-conf.xml"
# koha-rebuild-zebra -b -f -v ausleihe-test

Hope this helps.

Best wishes: Michael

Re: [Koha] Using Koha for school textbook loan scheme

2019-06-11 Thread Indranil Das Gupta
Yes. This is fairly standard stuff. Here in India we often have semester
long loan of a fixed number of books for students coming from economically
backward strata. Books thus lent usually use a custom item type typically
called as Book Bank (and therefore with an item type code of BBK). These
students are also allowed to borrow other books (same as rest of the
students) aside from the BBK item type material.

Hope this helps

Yes. I think what you describe is typical for library operation except
for the duration of the loan, and Koha can handle that just fine. Koha
makes it possible for you to create custom reports (see examples here:
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/SQL_Reports_Library) which should
be flexible enough for your needs.

[Koha] Using Koha for school textbook loan scheme

2019-06-11 Thread doheochai
Hi -

I am the IT coordinator in a school in Ireland (by coordinator it doesn't
mean that I know anything about IT).

Our school intends to implement a school textbook loan scheme in order to
reduce the cost of providing school textbooks for parents. I search for
information but the only thing I could find went back to 2009.

We have between 90-130 students per year group and each student would be
receiving approx 15 different textbooks. The students would be entitled to
retain the books for 1-3 years depending on their course cycle. Our
intention is to barcode each copy of the textbook and scan it as it is
issued to each student. We need to be able to generate year group
lists/reports for each textbook and lists of which books are outstanding and
to which student at the end of each course cycle.

Simple question - I hope - is it possible to use Koha in this way?

Thanking any responses in advance - I would really appreciate some help
