Re: [Koha] Empty PDF file when printing labels

2022-07-07 Thread Franz Dietrich

Hi Katrin,

Thank you for the hint but if I remember correctly the files really were
empty. So no message/content at all.
Is there some server side logging that should capture this? If so where
do I find this?

Thanks again

Sorry I'm no expert either but did you check if there are any suspicious
slow queries?
https://www.a2hosting.com/kb/developer-corner/mysql/enabling-the-slow-query-log-in-mysql

By setting the time to a very low number you get almost tracing... but
then again you could probably use a better way to track all queries.

Dear Koha Community

Following up my post on 12 June I am repeating my call for help as Koha is
effectively unusable right now at one of our libraries.

We are running Koha 19.11 on Debian 9.11 (stretch). This supports 5 Koha
instances for some of the volunteer-run libraries in Sheffield. It has been
stable and working fine for many months.

Currently we have a serious problem with one of these instances. Any
attempt to check out a book hangs (never completes) and we see
/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/circ/circulation.pl consuming most of the
CPU cycles (stuck in a loop perhaps?). On one occasion I noticed it was
renew.pl consuming all the CPU.

I have tried disabling plack for this instance, and have rebuilt the zebra
index, but the problem persists. There is nothing obvious reported in the
log files, though I may not be looking in the right places. I cannot see
any obvious problems with the configuration, though again I might be
looking at the wrong things. The other 4 instances are working OK.

*Any advice on how to debug or fix this would be greatly appreciated.*

Does anyone know how to turn on tracing of MySQL transactions? I was
wondering if looking at the activity at the database end might help.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Chris Brown (Voluntary Libraries in Sheffield)

Re: [Koha] Installation on so-called virtual server at external internet service provider IONOS

2020-01-26 Thread Franz Dietrich

Hello,

As your ressources are small I'd suggest to get something cheaper.

I'm using a vps located in germany: contabo.de
There you get a lot more for the same money. The cheapest VPS is
3.99€/month has 4 cores, 4GB Ram and 300GB of diskspace.

You can host your domain at inwx.com where a .de domain costs 4.65€/year

I am very pleased with their (german) support. Do not contact them in
english their english support is bad.

I hope I did help you

PS: I have no connection to the companies I'm recommending other than
beeing their customer (I do not get promo or anything)

We have two options
- installing koha on a separate pc (debian) on our premises, but so far I
don't know how can open the OPAC to the customers

- installing koha on an external virtual server with root access
My question, is there someone here having it done at IONOS, the former German

Or to you have better recommendations.
By the way, money is a very small resource in our association, German Verein

Re: [Koha] Installation from Source Code

2019-12-08 Thread Franz Dietrich
It is quite possible but a lot of work... I think it would be easier to
carry the server to an internet access install and setup everything then
bring it back to where it is supposed to run.

because else the sourcecode is only the first bit. You are needing all
the dependencies like SQL, PHP, etc. In addition to that you need all
development packages if you are building from source.

So if it must be without internet I would setup a similar ubuntu with
internet access and install koha on it carefully noting everything that
has been installed and then download all those packages manually
transfer them to the server and install them there. - but still it is
rather unlikely that you will manage to install the server without
internet in case of problems (especially since this seems to be your
first koha install).

Another variant would be to create a virtual machine on a computer with
internet. Setup everything on the virtual machine and then transfer the
virtual machine to the target.

hope that helps.

Re: [Koha] German community library project needs help

2019-09-30 Thread Franz Dietrich

Hey there,

I'm in Germany (Stuttgart) I recently migrated our schools library to koha.

I think the biggest problem why koha might not be what you are lookin
for is that it is relatively hard (in not librarian speak) to add
entries. So while it is easy when familiar with Library systems it is
rather hard to figure out what to put where, when you just want to add
four books, the drilling machine and the badminton set.

Other than that the basic setup is easy. Just follow the instructions ;)

installing ubuntu linux on a machine:
(german)
https://www.heise.de/download/blog/Ubuntu-fuer-Einsteiger-Download-und-Installation-3641146?hg=2=1=false

or rent a VirtualServer with linux e.g. at contabo. (faster
internetspeed, always on)

installation instructions for koha:
(german)

hope that helps
I can also try to help you but Stuttgart is a long way from you ;)

Re: [Koha] Error trying to add new patron

2019-08-01 Thread Franz Dietrich
Yes we are getting closer. This sounds like a permission problem go look
for that file and see if it has executable rights and if it is acessible
by the user of your webbrowser.

check if the file has similar permissions as my file:

$ ls -la /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/members/moremember.pl
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 11416 Apr 29 16:40
/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/members/moremember.pl

Fix the problem with
# chmod +rx /usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/members/moremember.pl

If that did not work try to find some other permission restriction like
the directory or something.

hope that helps

Hey Owen,

for me it can be resized as long as it works without scrolling in
1280x1024 as we still have monitors that size.

Re: [Koha] Intro and questions

2019-06-15 Thread Franz Dietrich
Greetings Charles,

though I'm not an official I'd say that depends a lot on the size of the
library, the number of users that use it and the speed you expect from koha.

It is recommended to use at least a dualcore CPU and 4 Gigabytes of RAM
(on a linux computer).

There has been the question answered here:
http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Koha-System-Hardware-Requirements-td5981449.html

All the best and good luck with your installation. Koha is a very good
choice.

[Koha] resent: importing items

2019-04-07 Thread Franz Dietrich
Hello guys and gals,

I successfully converted the old MAB2(German predecessor of MARC21)
library format of records to MARC21. They import as I wanted it.

However now I need to import the list of items. But I can't seem to find
a way to batch import items? I currently have them as a csv file so
probably I need to write a similar conversion script as I did before for
the mab2. But I don't know what to convert it to.
Whats the way to import items (instances of books)?

Thanks for your help
Franz Dietrich
